You might think this would be over the hill 12 years in -- but, no. Some light volatility wafts up a big nose filled with sweet roasted plums, zin-berry fruit, some green coffee beans and baking spices. Really ripe on the palate but the acids and remaining tannins provide lift. Great depth of fruit in the middle palate and the finish is moderately long. This is in a really nice spot. Excellent.

Good wine. Color of wild blackberries, almost black, color of wine young, despite having already 10 years. Aromas of black fruit cooked such as Blueberry plum and spices too. Good body, intensity. Long finish. I liked it.

Great Valpolicella! Dark brick colour, intense nose, complex. Really nice on the palate, excellent combination of flavours, medium/full body. Medium finish, and makes you want to come back to the glass. Fully mature, drink now!

Double decanted from magnum, prior to a New Years Eve party at Mel's. Immediately accessible red fruit and mineral on the aromas. Deep plums, dark fruits, baking spices, black pepper on the palate. Yes some tannins in there too. Luxurious lingering finish. Almost sweet, but still a dry red, a cousin of the Amarone. Drinking beautifully now. After two hours any rough edges from the tannins have been smoothed out, it is completely integrated and outstanding. I would say this …

This one was a challenge and might be past its prime. Initially tasting seemed to indicate that it was starting to oxidize and we nearly dumped it out. However after a few hours it was drinkable and showed Amarone-like raisin nose and dried fruit flavours. Still there was some off flavours lurking that made it less than ideal.

Tasted at the winery with the vintner. Amazing earthy spicy nose, scents of fig, hinting at an Amarone flavor profile, but surprise- bone dry red fruit, acid and tannin; a young conplex wine that will benefit from 5-10y of aging.

VinItaly Day 3 (Verona, Italy) : Partially dried grapes, 60% fresh, aged in 700L oak; garnet; loamy, perfumed, exotic nose, spice, red apple skin, plum, mineral in background; soft, silky, rustic with nice polish, spice, mineral on finish; good.

Not nearly as elegant as the 2005 was at this stage. Rather concentrated and goes well with the chicken, but very alcoholic, heavy oak; old Whiskey notes. Wait another 3 years. I hope it improves, but I cannot say this with certainty. Drink 2016-2018. Sediment present. Decant.

Dark color. Heavy raisin on the scent, without the Amarone alcohol, but could easily be confused with a "lighter" Amarone. Still holding up well, certainly not downhill. Excellent value considering what I paid for it (around US$ 33). As usual, wish I had more.,

Typical amaronenose but more dark chocolate and dried cherries then usual. A bit sweet and tannic on the attack almost like a young desert wine. On the mid palete it tastes like dried cherry in cocnaq with dark chocolate around. The finish is more dry. Fullbodied and will peak within 2 years. I think it´s worth drinking now. This is a great christmas wine for people from northern Europe. It´s not hard to dislike this wine actually but it´s different …

Not quite consistent with last note..? More ripasso-like, more dried fruit and not quite the elegance. Still great fruit, concentration and balance. Excellent lenght. Survived 24h in the glass...in sum: a great wine but not fantastic like the previous bottle. Carries its 15,5% with style though. Maybe 91p is too much for this bottle, but...

Dark red color. Aromas of roasted cherry, leather, and some raisin. Palate has roasted cherry, plum, mission fig, leather, and some raisin elements to it that carry into a medium-long finish. Initially chewy from tannins, this does resolve into a pleasant drink but needs richer foods to keep up with it and help balance out the rough edges. Drink or hold.

What a crowd pleaser! This wine should sell in droves. You can not dislike it, and that is maybe the problem: It's too easy too like. It has neither finesse nor debth, just a lot of fruit with a great taste. Close to sodapop or jam. Not so sure this wine will benefit from further cellaring. I poured it right out of the bottle and that was no problem.

Elegant, extremely intense and fantastic fruit, very good lenght. Ripasso style, some dried fruit-likeness. Hmm, this was great. Probably the best valpo I've ever had. Must be some ripasso-method behind this? But done woth extreme finesse.

Veneto - $20 to $40 : The groups WOTN. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has cedar and cherries. More dark cherries and cherry licquer with some leather on the palate. It turns more to a liquer on the finish and is somewhat disjointed. Overpriced at the $40 Ohio, but this can be found for half that elsewhere. At that price, it is a good deal. It has a nice complexity and I think some air would …

MO collection and tasting (Richfield, Lam Soon Building, Singapore) : Almost Amarone like - a function of the vintage perhaps? Dark core, pink rim. Deep nose, with candied dark fruit, spice, cassis, earth and sweet oak. Really different from the high-toned aromatics of the Quintarelli 2001 we had alongside. Nice balance on the palate here, with quite a bit of freshness for a 2003, and well-formed but firm and chewy tannins. It needed the structure too. Plenty of richness and …

This remains a very solid value. Not my stylistic choice, but excellent quality with a rubber/ripe fruit profile. This is aging nicely and should continue to drink well for the next 5 or more years. Very nicely balanced for a wine with this flavor saturation. If you are in the mood, go for it - recommended! (91)

Deep plum red color. Aromas of raisins, ripe berries, plums, and dried figs. On the palate, this shows some raisin character, along the lines of a recioto, with deep red fruit, some heat on the finish, and a coarse tannic structure that kicks in at the end. Seemed a bit hotter than the last bottle consumed, but showed varied elements with a family-style Italian dinner, matching best with the cream-based sauce of the baked manicotti with chicken and spinach. Seemed …

In glass two hours. Very dark color with an orangish brown hue around the edge. The nose reminds me of walking through a fruit tree grove (plums, dark pears) towards the end of the season, when most of the fruit has fallen to the ground and is rotting and being reabsorbed into the soil. These aromas are quite strong and dominating. There also seems to be a slight bit of heat on the nose. Fresh and exuberant in the mouth, …
