Decanted for 2 hours and this opened up straight away and hit its stride after 4 or 5 hours. Very 'Pomerol' like with dark fruits, blueberry and truffles. Traditional in style and very enjoyable. In a good window now but this has plenty of time on its side.

Ripe, rich and sexy with sweet plums and dark currants. Best to give it a 1.5-2 hour decant before serving. 92-93

The 2008 Le Gay was beautiful. It was poured into a decanter to serve. The nose exhibited sweet plum fruit, red berries, sweet spice and charcoal. On the palate, it was expressive with medium plus stuffing and finish. There were lots to like about this wine. It was sweet and layered with refined tannins. Drinking very well with a quick decant.

Might have given this a lil too much air. Opened 3 hours before tasting it. Very soft an feminine, smooth. Easy drinking. Does have a long finish , more acidic driven on the finish. Wish I would’ve tried this on a pop n pour tasting rather than giving it a few hours to breathe. Has that Bordeaux nose but it isn’t as bold an in your face. Good wine all in all. Just wish I would’ve enjoyed opening until now …

Quite floral. Medium body, tannins smoother than silk. Plums, ripe red berries, fruit forward in a beautiful way. Sang with dry aged prime ribeye, mushrooms. So sad that is our only bottle!

Full-bodied with rich sweet dark red and black fruit and a long multilayered finish. Will only get better in several years.

My 3rd bottle and still, a difficult vintage resulting in a disappointing result. Thin at best and lacking length.

Red fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla, with secondary notes of tobacco leaf and hint of soy. Tannins well integrated. Long finish. Drink now or hold for more secondary development.

Still young, and with the reserved character of the 2008 vintage, the wine offers more on the earthy, truffle and black cherry nose than on the full-bodied, tannic, structured palate. With 2 hours of air, the wine filled out, but it retained its sense of old-school, classic and reserved character. Drink from 2028-2040.

I slow oxed this for about an hour, had some of the bottle, and put the rest in the fridge for the following day. This is a dark red, tongue-staining wine with just a tad of sediment left in the bottle. The nose is full of promise, with wet earth, chocolate sauce, raw cocoa, and espresso. In the mouth, I get fruit cake and black cherry elements, all wrapped in a velvet throw. This is all very nice, but the …

Decanted for one hour before serving. Plum fruit, cedarwood, dark fruit, chocolate and herbs on the nose. Palate has generous power with ripe fruit, yet the finish is slightly short. In fact, it offers amazing QPR. Best to give it a minimal 2 hour decant if you drink now. 91-92

Drinking well with a nice balance of dark fruit. Not much upfront and the finish was less than memorable, but the overall picture was that it is time to drink now!

Drinking well but still quite primary, even with hour plus of decant. Red fruit on the nose, with more plum and mocha coming out on the palate. Balanced and precise. Room to develop further with tertiary notes.

Perfect condition and in a great window, opens up in 1.5h, prunes, tobacco, love the balance and especially the present tannins keeping all in check, spices and tar on the palate, fruit is present, very nice

A bit reserved, this can use another 2-3 years in the cellar before all its richly textured, full-bodied, multi-layered black plum, espresso, truffle, violet, and cocoa charms are fully ready to imbibe. This is going to be worth the wait.

Magnum. …

One hour decant; which it needed. Lots of sediment. The 2008 left banks are indeed approaching their drinkability window. Very classic, Pomerol style. Lots and lots of Ferrous/Iron terroir on this wine. Mild red cherish aromas too and touches of sandalwood. Medium bodied with adequate depth of Red Fruits on the palate. Tannins are very much in check. Earthy/Terroir finish. I’m pretty much in agreement with Jane Anson (Decanter) on this wine. Drink now; but won’t be going downhill either. …

Finally opening up a bottle. Ullage is good and cork is tight. Just a bit of sediment. Color is robust and darker than anticipated. Nose is all that you want from a Pomerol – fleshy, dark plums, chocolate, rose, and something floral. As for the palate, you would think it’s not a 2008 given all the broad, dark flavors of plum, blackberry, sour cherry, cassis, and earth. Toward the finish, tannins peaks through, ending with something watermelon-like and an ever …

This is the best example of port like in an older, dry wine I have ever experienced. The decadent, lush texture is pure exotic pleasure. The nose, redolent of fig, dark cherry, truffle and wet earth is off the hook. But it is on the palate, with all its decadence, that is the true shine of this wine. Perhaps, it was a bit much for many tasters in its youth, but now, this is almost obscene in its nature. Long …

First time I have had this in a couple of years. At first a slight note of cassis, very classic, it has some red berries, but also a hint of dried fruits with a slightly green feeling. On the palate firm, medium bodied, more structure than big fruit, quite long and elegant, very nice with food.

FLIRTING WITH PERFECTION At 70 years of age, this was definitely not your sexy young girls anymore, but it did behave like one. The last time I had a 47 was the legendary Cheval Blanc. Tonight I told myself I wanted to end 2017 in a memorable way, thus this bottle. The subject line was borrowed from Robert Parker’s remark on this wine. The nose was sublime, with superb elegant fine oak, like a beautiful Cuban cigar. Palate was young, …

Dark red colour with a brick-red hue. The nose shows maturity of mushrooms and forest floor as well as cherry, tarragon and oak. The palate shows soft tannines and a nice long finish. At it's best right now, no need to keep in cellars.

Much better than my last bottle! Still, perhaps not what you could and should expect from this vine. Last bottle in the cellar, and I believe that was good, as it might not hold up for much longer?

Great pomerol nose, with sweet fruit and a healthy dose of oak. However, taste is a bit disapointing. Almost a bit rough around the edges, and to short. Acid is a bit too evident, and the fruit can not balance it. Good but not great.

Generous plum fruit nose, but also with a detracting earthy note. Ink and some development in the form of autumn leaves. Lacking depth. Medium-fullish body. Integrated tannins. Good balance, but lacking a bit structure. Plum, ink, liquorice. Decent length. Lacking a bit mid-palate, and drying out. Earthy elements. Good, but not great. A rather rough Pomerol, that I don't fancy cellaring longer.

Nice wine. Started off with a good nose, but that faded rather quickly, unfortunately. On the palet it was very Merlot á lá Pomerol, but to short on the finish for my taste, and not enough fruit left to hold together all the way. Lacks a bit of the complexity I was expecting/hoping to get from it. Still, soft and feminine as one could expect, and not a bad example at all. I think it might be on its way …

My last bottle of the '99. Overall my experience with the '99 Le Gay has been mixed, this was a nice bottle. Fairly feminine in style with soft, round, dark fruit in a lighter, med bodied format. Not particu;arly complex but enjoyable with a little bit of chalky tannins left on the fairly short finish.

Dark fruit, with lots of pencil, as well as some spice and floral notes. Well structured, with a few lingering tannins and good acidity. No barnyard or funk to speak of. Started to oxidize a bit after a few hours, suggesting it doesn't have a lot of years left, but drinking well right now.

Finishing my third of three bottles, which like others were purchased from JJ Buckley. I agree with the point about bottle variation as two were quite good and one less so. I think many of thre reviews here are expecting this wine to be something that is is not. It is a Pomerol and is 65% Merlot and 35% Cab Franc. It is supposed to be a feminine wine. This is a nice medium bodied, mature example. The tannins are …
