Miani, Sauvignon Blanc, Friuli Colli Orientali

At Brad’s house with poached salmon. I first discovered Miani’s wines 3 years ago at a cafe in Venice, Italy and finally tracked them down here in the US. While the vintage I had in Venice (probably 2017, 2018 or 2019) reminded me more of a higher end White Burgundy, this 2021 was clearly Sauvignon Blanc. Color is light straw. On the nose: Soft lemon, apple and pear, bit of honeysuckle and minerals. On the palate: Green apples and pear, bit of cinnamon/oak spices, honeysuckle and hint of citrus. Good mouthfeel and length. Outstanding white. Bought on recommendation at a London wine shop. My only bottle. Worth buying more.

Best Italian white I have ever had. Curious if Gaia & Rey or Emilio Pepe Trebbiano would beat it, but god damn this was good. Tropical fruits and Grass cuttings all over the nose. Popping acidity with great waxy balance in the mouth. I honestly could not get enough. Extremely hard to find, you see it, you buy it, or you call me.

I'm not a massive fan of Sauvignon Blanc - but I am a massive fan of this. Full flavoured even this young, mineral, great acidity balanced by perfect green fruit and a hint of honey for richness. Hard to get your hands on. Excellent.
