Popped and poured. Riedel Vinum Bordeaux stems and 58 F. Clear with pale lemon color, Nose pronounced, dominated by citrus and green fruit, floral perfume, resinous sage-cedar and slight burnt rubber. Medium high acid with a light medium body. Palate is in line with nose with grapefruit, gooseberry, bready yeast and vanilla oak... This wine was ready drink and seemed to be showing it's age. The Happy Canyon SB is beautiful. Was a great match with the mixed salad with apples and cranberries. Bright, crisp flavors with plenty of acidity, citrus, and peach flavors. A crowd pleaser!

Fiddlehead wine dinner (Jujube in Chapel Hill) : (This may be the 2007 - it was at a wine dinner, never saw the bottle and the info sheet didn't say.) A: Clear, pale lemon gold N: Lemon and gooseberry, with a touch of something like cooked green beans in butter P: Lemon grass, yogurt - bright acid, med/med + body, med alc. The oak adds a very nice complexity to the texture and hefty finish of this wine; very much my style of Sauvignon Blanc. How will it pair with chicken pesto pasta?? I'll know in about an hour.

Fiddlehead Cellars 2009 Fall Open House : – tasted non-blind at Fiddlehead’s 2009 Fall Open House – Tropical nose – kind of came across as a CA/NZ hybrid. Full bodied for a Sauv. Blanc, but only 14.1% alc.. A bit alcoholic on the finish. I preferred the two “Gooseberry” Sauv. Blancs we tried today. No malo; 1/3 stainless, 1/3 neutral Fr. oak, 1/3 new Fr. oak.

Taste from Whole Foods (Lincoln Park) wine dispenser. Fantastic value at about $25. Lots of unique complexity and layers in this bottling from Santa Ynez (one of my new faves)! Funky white peach on the nose with lots of dirty minerality. More tropical fruit with unusla musty earth on the nose and palate. Great structure with a gorgeous mouth feel. Awesomely complex for a SB -- must be the unique terroir of the Santa Ynez Valley. Nice green lively acidity …

Santa Barbara Wine Tasting Weekend; 3/27/2009-3/30/2009 (Solvang, Lompoc, etc) : Tasted in a flight at the winery. Some nice citrus and lemon zest but there is also a surprising oak influence that throws you for a but of a loop. Normally I wouldn't expect this in a Sav Blanc but here it works well and adds nice complexity.

Weekend in the Santa Ynez Valley; 3/27/2009-3/30/2009 (Solvang, Los Olivos, Lompoc, and surround areas) : Tasted at the winery. This is interesting Sauv Blanc in that it sees some oak and shows more like a lot of the White Bordeauxs that I have had. Nose of creamy minerality and lemon grass. Silky mouthfeel with soft honey and lemon cream pie, and some zesty acidity on the finish. Really nice stuff that would be awesome at a sunny summer day BBQ.
