One bottle was swamped by brett and touch of cowshit. The next had noticeable brett but deeper and clearer fruit. Drinkable. Needless to say this is savoury Rioja with the fruit a bit strangled by the winemaking faults. 13.5%, cork.

Ruby Red colour with some brown tinges to be expected given age. Leather and spice box on nose. Delightful palate - ripe plum fruit, light to medium body, soft tannins and medium acidity makes it very approachable but with enough complexity to keep you engaged. Good balance with a lingering tobacco finish. Drinking well now and it held up for finishing off the following evening.

Ruby hue that opens with intense potpourri and rosemarys aromas. On the palate, ripe cherry and sugarplum dominate while baking spices and cedar linger on a lasting finish. Medium density and balanced acid/fruit/tannins paired nicely with grilled marinated pork chops.

Purple hue that opens with dried leaves and rosemary aromas. Sugarplum and dried blackberry flavors dominate the palate. Integrated tannins and acidity balance quite well with a lingering finish of tobacco and cedar. IMHO, this wine will drink even better in another couple years.

Plums, raspberries, dark cherries, boysenberries, licorice, vanilla, oak, and spices. This wine is medium bodied and dry. Tannins are light to medium, alcohol is medium. Sharp acidity on the finish. Solid Rioja for the $15 price tag. Paired well with classic American cheeseburgers from Irv's Burgers in West Hollywood, closing their doors this weekend after 70 years on Santa Monica Boulevard.

After drinking 17 bottles of this over the past year I cant believe I’ve never added a review. For the price Muriel is about the best deal going in Rioja. Is it overly complex and will it challenge your palate? Not really. But it is delicious and everything a Rioja Reserva should be for $15. Sour cherry and leatherand really just perfect for a Tuesday night. If you like Rioja give it a try.

Plummy look with a hint of haze. Nose leathery, as expected, but with dark fruits and even a vague sense of citrus. Flavors of herbs, plum and raspberry wrap around a smoked oaky chew. Tannins just a touch flimsy, but a long finish with utility around foodstuffs.

This was a little tight and tannic at first, but then blossomed with air. Notes of 3/2/2018 were accurate. But really does open up with time. If I find more of this, I will probably buy it, as it's interesting and complex at a very modest $15. Should be interesting as it ages.

With roasted chicken. Daughter with good nose smelled and said, "Wood." Not wrong. Probably will integrate more over time. Very dry, somewhat Brunello like in its acidity, not super toasty and vanilla-y. Fruit is reticent, but comes out as dried cherries, lighter red fruits like currants. I've go another that I'll probably let sit. At the $15 I paid, not a bad deal.

Tempranillo. Spain. La Rioja, Rioja. Dark red garnet color. Sweet oak bouquet. Med-Full body, ample citrus and acidic with a sweet and a faint lingering of bark. Medium tannin with a short course finish. It's a simple but nice wine. It's a fun, decent wine. I paid $21 dollars for -- I think it's more a $15-16.

Dark fruit with good concentration. Notable spice, probably the American oak showing its stuff. Fine tannins. Perhaps not textbook Rioja but it's very enjoyable at this tariff.

This lively Rioja has black and dried cherry flavors combined with some strawberry. Herbal and spice notes round off the package. The lively and almost citrusy character carry it forward. Very pleasant light structure. Light tannins.

The first sip is always nice balance of fruit and spice. The light flower of daisy and carnations with faint machine oil behind it gives a faithful promise of the delicious wine in the glass. The medium finish starts with acid on the edge of the tongue. Eventually, a little sour milk edges onto the red grapeskin and light flowers.
