Tasted blind. Nice nose of tobacco, red fruit. Really elegant, earthy, notes of old leather and spice. Surprisingly fine and tender tannins. Lovely wine which seems to be well within its drinking window.

Just about hitting its peak. Fine energy and sauve structure oak is mostly knit and tertiary character is emerging. Fine bottle!

Decanted 2 hours due to strong Brett which eventually dissipated. Purplish red in color, nose of cherries and cassis, barnyard, truffles, caramel with menthol notes and hints of tobacco. Palate is with lots of tertiary development but still present dark fruit, soft tannins and balanced acidity finishing long with slight white pepper note. Peaking and will not improve further. Ready to drink.

I only have one bottle of the 2001 Pape Clement, and I'm glad I opened it when I did. Drinking well now and, while it will still keep a few years, I dont see any significant upside to waiting. Started inauspiciously with the cork breaking and falling in. On the nose, fragrant but not as vivid as the exceptional 2000 I had last year. On the palate, one could see the influence of the hotter vintage in 2001 vs 2000; …

I only have one bottle of this wine, and I'm glad I opened it when I did. Drinking well now and, while it will still keep a few years, I don’t see any significant upside to waiting. On the palate, there was black fruit, truffle, tobacco and graphite with silky tannins and a moderate finish. Quite rich and fruit forward but still fresh and enough secondary characteristics made it through.

Consistent to my last tasting note. Gloriously aromatic nose with farmyard leather and an tones, combined with black fruit and sweet spices. The pallet is a bit lighter than a nose suggest but an excellent food and it was gone. Wonderful, Bardo as it should be.

Flamboyant nose of sweet, caramel, super jammy dark fruits, a touch of spicy cocoa. Jet black colour, rather dense and quite chewy, heavy on the palate, extracted and sweet, a little heat, new world in style. The wine is insanely Parkerised.

Very nice mix of fruit and tertiary flavors. Fruit is still ripe - plum, orange peel - and umami, earthy flavors are prominent as well - mushroom, sweet herbs, dried rosemary, a little funk. Still fresh acid and nice tannins. Nowhere near being past its prime. If it’s out of balance at all, it’s maybe the plus acid. Not an absolute showstopper but still delicious.

Nice wine from the start. Soft aged flavors of earth, tobacco with nice developed fruit. Drank well for a couple hours but then faded a bit. It was good right out of bottle and I did decant. Next time I will leave in the bottle. Have a case left and hope it holds for a while

55F since acquiring on release - youthful red black - smoke and graphite and soy - savory AF - tannins both silky velvet and powdery fine - nice wine particularly for charred meats like this lamb

Lovely ash, tobacco, cedar and new leather nose. Bit light in the mouth but with lovely gravel and mineral finish. Come across that it’s a touch green but the oak has morphed into a lovely nose. A clear notch down from the 2000 rendition and couple of notches from the excellent 1998. Really enjoyable though. Drink now, it didn’t need air and there isn’t much depth of fruit. 93pts

13% Alc., natural cork, 5% soaked, still strong dark purpur red color with no ageing reflexes. Nose: Smell of beautiful matured Bdx. Palate: Very good freshness, good balance, ripe heart cherry to sour cherry, melty black chocolate, wine doesn't show tiredness, pleasant tones of ripeness and secondary aromas. Bottle was quite fast emptied. Give it 1h in the decanter! That's what you desire when you drink well stored matured Bdx. Unfortunately my last bottle.

From magnum. Showing some signs of age with lightening around the rim and some more tertiary notes appearing on the smoky, sous-bois and cedar-infused nose. Soft as velvet through the mid-palate with some fruit remaining. Just lacking a bit of structure and the length, breadth and depth on the finish to make this more interesting. An enjoyable bottle for sure, just not to the same level as one enjoyed a year ago. Drink 'em if you've got 'em as I …

PnP Nose of dark fruit, tobacco, wet soil, cedar, and spice. Med body, med- acidity, med- tannin. This is sugning now. All elements are in line. I would enjoy this Joe and over the next 10 years.

„Very classical“, that was in my mind during the drinking experience over 2 days with this one. Typical aromas of tobacco, wet earth and leaves, pencil shavings. Good structure and fine tannins on the palate. Not the most powerful wine but refined and in a perfect window now! 92-93

Nose of cassis/ dk berry. On my palate I first get a smokiness, then a sweetness that fills the palate and gives this wine good length. This is not a heavy wine but is packed with great flavours. Leather, tobacco, dk chocolate, dark berry to name a few. This softens and gains complexity as you finish the bottle. Excellent wine! A pleasure to drink.

It has been a long time since I had this. I remember it just like it was. A lighter, may be a touch diluted (like so often in 2001) version of the amazing 2000. Excellent aromas of farmyard funk, dark fruit, forest floor. Aroma 96+, palate 94, quite light and a touch too much acidity for the fruit. At peak now, drink up.
