Opened at the China Club in HK. Slow-oxed for many hours before serving blind. Guessed early 2000s Nebbiolo, but couldn't pinpoint anything other than that. Pleasantly surprised to see Gaja ST! Advanced with no primary aromas, in lieu dried rose, tar, and cinnamon define an exuberant but not particularly fresh wine. Still a bit of tannic grip and sufficient structure to suggest further aging potential but this is already rather dried out so not expecting much.

Incredibly dark, youthful and tannic, this 22-year-old Piedmont has developed an animal aged Bordeaux like nose which stumped all my fellow wine lovers a few evenings ago. Drank from coravin. Found the wine a bit closed/Def decant next time! Dark red in color, not showing much age on the rims. Lots of sediment. Quite earthy, dark fruit still present, still some tannins but soft. Leather, tar, sour cherry, forest floor and coffee. Looking forward to trying this again.

Soirée dégustation de rêve 2e essai 17 Mai 2018. Nez moins exubérant que le Lafitte, moyennement aromatique avec un peu de fleurs et de végétal au nez mais tout en finesse. L'acidité du Nebbiolo se fait sentir, des tannins fort agréables avec un très petit assèchement en finale, qui est de bonne longueur. La bocca è piena, foderante, un filo pesante e manca di scorrevolezza, nonostante una rinfrescante parte mentolata sul finale Il legno inizia a essere integrato, ma la sensazione finale è quella di un vino moderno che non riesce mai a decollare. Until 1995 this was a single vineyard Barbaresco from a hilltop vineyard with southern exposure (Sorì) named after the matriarch of the family, Clotilde "Tildìn" Rey. From 1996 onwards, there has been an addition of 4-5% Barbera to the wine, declassifying the wine as DOC Langhe, until 2016. A weekend with friends in Germany Mosel area: Part 3 : Extremely beautiful bouquet with rustic and earthy flavors, red and black berry fruits. In my opinion the addition of Barbera, for color says Gaja, negatively impacts the wine as it does not allow the full essence of the Nebbiolo grape to express itself. For the price one must pay for the Gaja name, these wines are just not worth it in my opinion. I much prefer to drink Giacosa.
