Hundred Acre, Ancient Way Vineyard Summer's Blocks, Barossa Valley

Lots of sediment. Opened and paired with steaks at CustomEat steakhouse in Gangnam. Great. Drank side by side with 2005 Levy & McClellan and I liked L&M better. My friends preferred this wine over L&M.

Fabulous wine, drank as though it's much younger. Still garnet and opaque, very pronounced nose of black cherries and plums. Very full-bodied, loads of fruit, no significant tannins. A real carnival of flavors, lots of flavors, can go many more years. Ric

Part of blind tasting of Premium Aussie Shiraz. Dark garnet crimson. Massive nose. Rich depth of evolved fruit but there is structure and elegance here. The tannins are superfine but in the front row and well-integrated. Think of the tannins as the symphony in the pit at a staging of Don Giovanni. Harmonious, confident but out of sight. The acidity and alcohol (high abv 15.5%!) are stitched together well. Well made. Top favourite of all tasters. Thanks CW!

Quick decant and served. Amazing blue fruit (plums dominated) pop. Great balance on the palate with a long silky finish. Fresh and showing no age. There was a touch of alcohol but it wasn't distracting. Fantastic wine.

Brought to our last CWG (blind). The wine is ruby, no bricks on the edges, full body, a bit sweet and good complexity and finish. I guessed Cabernet but I should have known better. I don’t see this wine getting any better, drink up!

Similar to prior note after a 2 hour double decant, except this bottle was getting close being too ripe, a little sweeter, but still integrated its alcohol. One of our group guessed Amarone after blind tasting (good guess). Outstanding, drink up

The 2005 Ancient Way Summer’s Blocks is opaque deep garnet in color with deep ruby/purple hues. I decanted this for 1.5 hours and drank it over the following 2 hours. The remarkably youthful nose showcases aromas of juicy black plum, black raspberry, baked wild strawberry, fig, coconut, black licorice, cigar box, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Undoubtedly a great wine, although having been introduced to an older, less bolder, styles of Aussie Shiraz, this is a bit too new style for me. Kind of new California style; forward, fruity, long, aromatic; still excellent.

The best part of committing to the study of wine is that you get so in tune with a producer, a terroir, a style, that it becomes a language. I love that Hundred Acre did an Australian wine, and specifically a Barossa Valley Shiraz. Wow. Magnificent! WOTN. Dinner party for Jay Wilson at Matt Walsh home. Round, excellent fruit and tannins with sharpness, pepper. Raspberry liquor, cherry. Nice mouth feel and finish.

Beautifully smooth, but still complex. On the nose - green olive, cured meat, dark berries underneath the first two. On the palate - rich and full bodied, more dark ripe fruit. Smooth tannins. Beautiful wine, could go at least another 5 years, maybe 10.

Wonderful slightly sweet smoky with a hint of gingerbread aromas. Long finish.

Decanted 2 hours. Huge fruit, leather, limestone on the nose. Tangy, bold, blackberry jam taste. Chewy, dense, complex concentrated flavors. After 2 1/2 hours, luscious, silky, with sustained depth of flavors and smooth tannins. Da Bomb!

What a nice wine with a grilled tenderloin / asparagus. Decanted a couple of hours before serving; still required another 30 minutes to completely blow off an "old grass" scent - replaced with a much fresher nose of dark ripe berries; incredible balance of integrated and lightly sweet / soft tannins.
