Cullen, Mangan Vineyard, Margaret River

Opens up and gains fruit intensity over a few hours of air, Malbec-dominant profile on the nose and more of the Merlot on the palate, wonderful fruit intensity with medium weight, well made, though slightly flabby on the attack and finish, perhaps lacking the acidity it probably had 2-3 years ago. Still would love to have a few of these to drink over the next year with 3-4 hours decanting.

Medium-dark purple. A surprisingly muted nose, Malbec to the fore: bramble jam, plum liqueur. Surprisingly acidic too; that's the most striking characteristic here. There is sweet fruit, but it's in the background. Very little obvious tannin, but there's a lot of density to give it structure. I love Cullen's Chardonnay and Cabernet, but not for the first time I am left underwhelmed by the Mangan. Label says to drink 'up to ten years,' so maybe I've just left it too …

Glad we received this as a gift, as it would have been a waste of money otherwise. Light bodied, one dimensional red and no real interesting features. A bit of a shame really, given the winery and the vintage.

NobleRottersSydney - Reds; no Shiraz or Cab (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney) : {screwcap, 13%} (Gordon) Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot in that order. Youthful nose; lots of compressed plummy flavours with an authentic rural touch to them. This is helped by medium acidity and fairly soft gritty tannins, which give it an open quality on the palate. It�s medium-bodied, but really lifts because it has such an even presence along the tongue, giving a good medium-length to the finish. …

Peculiar wine, muted nose. Tasted more white than red, hints of burgundy. Don't know what to make of this. Leave for a few years & see what happens

Very drinkable & remarkably fresh & zesty for its age.

Stunning wine on all levels. Perfect time to consume this wine, right at its peak. Beautiful nose of black fruit and licorice. Seamless palate with primary fruit and a hint of secondary characteristics shining through. I would by more over and over if I could.

{screwcap, 14%} Still a ruby red. Plums and cherries, twigs and leaves. Not quite primary enough to pass for a new wine. Rich, soft palate; voluptuous, but in a not-terribly-structured way. Chewy grape tannins, some warmth in the mouth, and a bit of a doughnut shape on the palate. 60% Malbec and 40% Petit Verdot, for what it's worth. The wine becomes more Malbec-rustic as it sits in the glass. Ready to drink, I suspect - not going to fall …
