Reading Offline #7 - Thames Lido Dinner - Northern Rhône (The Thames Lido, Reading) : 100% Marsanne. 14.5% ABV. Half a degree lower alcohol than the Chave Selection it is served with but feels like much more. Peach flesh, some pear skin and lime on the nose. With air a touch of custard apple. The palate is rich and nutty with spicy yellow fruit. Mango peelings with air. Good stuff.

Drank with Chinese food at A.Wong. Lychee, peach; honey. Sufficient acidity to provide a nice balance to the spice of the food.

Beautifully balanced, elegant. Had it w/ pan-fried sablefish with citrus butter. Good round mouthfeel, very light acidity. This will go w/ a variety of foods or it can be drunk it on its own. Some complexity. Ready to drink now.

Very interesting, honey, cheese, spices, vanilla. Changes during the evening. Not my cup of tea, but an interesting wine.

This was disappointing to me. It had all the typical notes and flavors for Marsanne but was frankly out of balance - more sweetness that I prefer, which could have been the heat of the alcohol (14.5% ABV). Will try again in 4-5 years.

Served blind, recognize the Marsanne profille, loved the style, enough acidity to balance the richness and width iof the palate, nice change to Chardonnay.

Aromatic nose of peach, pineapple, ginger and spice. Peach, pear, melon, ginger and spice on the palate. Very long finish and well balanced. A gorgeous white Rhone. Served with New Orleans barbecue shrimp.

Yum. Honey, overripe pears, peach, stony minerality. High acidity and not very oily at all. Very nice already.
