Opened up and was much better on day 2. Enjoyable and at peak drinking now, won't improve further.

My last two bottles. Decanted 3 hours. Compared to my 3/28/21 tasting, the nose has developed considerably, w/ bruised red cherry, dried black plum, dried herbs, forest floor and sweet baking spices. Dry, with med (+) to high acidity and med to med (+), resolving tannins. The alcohol is high at (14%) but well integrated. At this point, I think it has peaked, with the fruit seemingly aging and fading faster than the oak and tannins.

Much better than a previous bottle a few years ago, showing a nice evolution in taste and now in its drinking window. Bright red colour with depth, nose with cherries and prune, well integrated taste but a fragile balance that evolved with at times more of the somewhat higher acidity switching to the ripe kernel with soft fruit.

100% merlot. No sediment. Clear mid ruby. Aromas of cherry, blackcurrant, tobaco and sweet spices. Wine is dry, medium+ body, medium+ acidity, medium+ grippy tanins. Finish is medium+. Wine is developing. Big and balanced wine with ability to age 5-7 more years.

Had hoped that the Merlot is ripe after 7 years, but it turned out that this was a bad moment to open this bottle. Too bitter and little fruit. Was better a couple of years ago, but I think it needs quite some time prior to fully integrating / peaking. Risky wine however I fear...

Oog: Helder, intens, rode bes tot kriek, matige doorzichtigheid, gevulde meniscus, matige en licht gekleurde tranen. Neus: Zuiver en intens aroma van zwarte bes en vlierbes, gestoofde pruim, herfstgeur, eucalyptus, koffie, chocolade, rokerig, kaneel, zoethout en vanille.
