Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru Le Poruzot-Dessus

A little golden color; somewhat neutral nose, peach pit, very slight nuttiness, aged very nicely but this is not a complex wine; straight forward with lovely balance, excellent apricot skin/light nuttiness that showcased superbly the roasted chicken with herbs.

Absolutely amazing. All pieces nicely integrated and oh what a relief. I was mentally preparing to explain the concept of premox to my wife but luckily I didn't have to.

Light golden, fragrant, no sign of pre-mox. Delicious! 2000 was a good year for Girardin.

Butterscotch, lilies and white flowers. Much lighter in the glass than the Corton, youthful but well integrated. No signs of premox whatsoever. Sweet on the palate with a lactic streak running right through the middle; showing some notes of clay and candy-corn. There was an almost kabinett-like quality to this. Medium body and finish. Good.

Dead as a door nail

With friends at dinner. Dense golden color. A typical Meursault nose, with aromas of poached pear, lemon, baked apple, honey, a touch of butterscotch, minerals and nicely integrated oak - complex. Velvety in the mouth; similar flavors. Good balance and acid. A long and delicious finish. Seems fully mature.

Dark gold color. Nose is very nice. Was a little worried by color, but got buttery, yellow apple and minerals on nose. Palate is also very nice. Dry and mineral notes right up front. I thought I could determine some oak too. Day 2 showed a little more open wine with minerals, and lemon notes with a nice toasty long finish.

At dinner, we opened one of my two bottles of this, which turned out was oxidized. We opened the second (and last) bottle, which we agreed was an outstanding, voluptuous, classic Meursault. Spicy, minerally nose. Full palate with lemons, pears and considerable butterscotch. Long, lovely finish. Well balanced, crisp. No noticeable oak.

Tasted 08/24/2005. A spicy nose, filled with minerals and stone. On the palate, full bodied, with honey, lemon, pears, and a long, spicy, mineral laden finish. Very nicely balanced acidity, crisp and refreshing. The oak is still a little prominent on this one, and I would like to try it in a couple of years when it has had more time to integrate. Overall, my #1 WOTN in this tasting. But I bet it will be even better with another …
