Having recently had a number of Northern Rhones it was interesting to poke around a dommestic region I have little experience with...the Rouge Valley. Reserved blackberries, plumbs intertwined with pepper and sage, throw in some coffee to boot. Spouse commented on olives but I didn't really pick up on that. Overall in pretty good balance and an interesting take on Syrah.

At home with some meatloaf and salad...it had been a while since last bottle (2020 was last note). Purchased direct close to release. Notes from 2020:"Deep purple color. Nose showing dark berry, earth and spice. Savory palate of marinated blackberry, roasted meat/bacon, spice/black pepper...secondary notes of herbs, underbrush. A lot going on here, some version of Northern Rhone meets Zinfandel spice. Better after about 30 minutes, still young, best guess is this drinks best over next 5 years." Bottle age …

Inky in color with a wide reddish rim. Strong nose of black plums, blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, tobacco, cedar, earth, vanilla, tobacco leaf, licorice, eucalyptus, dark chocolates, black pepper, light alcohol, herbs and spices. Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and fat legs. Dry on the palate with blackberries, cooked cherries, coffee, oak, licorice, eucalyptus, tobacco leaf, earth, dark coffee, herbs and peppercorn. Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is …

Dark berry, earth, spice, leather. Full bodied. Didn’t get distinct pepper or bacon fat. Emphasis on leather. First night a bit disjointed, almost too boozy, second night harmonized. Good stuff.

Nose showing dark berry, earth and spice. Savory palate of marinated blackberry, roasted meat/bacon, spice/black pepper...secondary notes of herbs, underbrush. A lot going on here, some version of Northern Rhone meets Zinfandel spice. Better after about 30 minutes, still young, best guess is this drinks best over next 5 years. PS - better on Day …

Started to shine about 30 minutes after opening. At cellar temp so expect this will continue to open up on the nose. Good clarity on the palate with dark fruits and a hint of savory/bacon on the finish. Should drink well over the next 5 years.

some meaty flavors, quite different than many CA syrahs, which I'm enjoying. Not too big, well integrated alcohol.
