Just a suggestion: I had one of these last week, and it's holding up fairly well, but definitely fading. No need to wait. The average rating here is probably on the nose, maybe deduct a point at current drinking experience. Dinner guests were in agreement that this rioja reserva was holding up a little better than another kind of the same vintage that we consumed in comparison.

This is a pleasant, easy going wine, with ripe, soft fruit, nicely rounded, with a little oak and benefiting from its extended bottle aging.

First time with this vintage since about a year ago. I dug one out of the chiller that has been cellaring for about 9 months after I'd grabbed a handful as they disappeared from PA shelves. If memory serves me correctly, the edges seem more rounded out this time around. The nose is initially subdued, presenting mostly oak and black pepper with some vanilla in the background. Slow-forming, irregular tearing leaves wide fingers on the glass. A few swirls reveal …

I dont understand that people complain that this is oaky; its a Rioja Reserva, they are oaky. And this is actually on the old school style, not so jammy and vanilla coconutty etc. Its thin, but I actually dont mind, this is a rustical old world vino. Very dry, Leatherry, earthy. Not very complex or mind blowing but a good qpr

Smooth cherry and a hint of baking spice with toasty oak tannins. Simple but versatile. Paired well with chicken and chorizo paella but could easily stand up to stronger flavors.

Quite sharp and acidic. Not at the same level I have tasted before from the 2012 vintage. Blindly tasted I would not recognise it as a Rioja.

This stuff is horrible. It's thin and lacks depth and complexity. The midpalate is void of any flavor at all. The finish is acrid with some spice, vanilla and coconut but it's all from oak. I guess if you are one of those people that love oaky wine it's ok. I like oak but it has to be balanced and compliment the wine. This one is going down the drain.

Nice quaffer - ruby red in the glass with tobacco on the nose. Very soft tannins and a palate marked by blueberries and anise. A pleasant oaky aftertaste that is marred by a slightly high acidity. Enjoy with some nice piquant cheese, probably ready for drinking now or within the next couple of years. Held up surprisingly well.

Have had a number of these bottles past few years, and enjoyed them very much. The bottle I had tonight suggested to me that the drinking window is closing, given that everything, be it the fruity mid-palate, or the moderate acidic finish, was all rather subdued. Suggest you drink up the bottles you have in your cellar.

Very smooth tannins, nicely integrated but pronounced vanilla oak, muted cherry candy, easy drinking round wine, lacking complexity but quite nice, time to drink up 87-88pts.

Pleasing Blueberry and graphite nose. Plum and cigar box are prominent followed by bright berry acidity and lush oaky tannin with notes of earth, leather, blueberry and pepper. This wine requires ample decanting and with that comes some warming. I suspect the negative reviews are a result of insufficient decanting and over chilling.

Colour: cherry red Nose: cherry, plum, cranberry, pomegranate. Maybe strawberry. Dark chocolate, sweet spice. Leathery, earthy. Some old oak. Palate: plum, cherry, strawberry, pomegranate. Sharp, fresh, red and black fruit. Leathery, earthy. Sweet spice. Maybe some old oak. Fresh berry-like acidity; fine grained slightly drying tannins. Still decent, but may not keep for much longer. Decent value on sale at AU $20. 13,5% alc. seal technical cork.

Did not enjoy this bottle, maybe it was off or the wine is passing it's drinking window. I have enjoyed this vintage maybe 6 or 8 times over the past 2 years. QPR has been great. This particular bottle's mid-palate was MIA, thin, with a dominating moderately acidic finish. Air helped a little, but not enough. Maybe the prospective buyer should eye a more recent vintage?

Light-medium claret colour. Mild savoury nose (herbs, smoke, dry earth). Immediate juicy plum taste with spicy bite. Tannins and oak become more noticeable in dry lingering aftertaste. Paired well with chorizo sausage and grilled zucchini.

Medium ruby in color. On the nose red fruit, primarily tart cherry, vanilla, baking spices (cinnamon, clove), wood, and coconut. Also an ephemeral dill that I can't pin down but kept popping up when I stopped searching for it. The palate is a softer generic red fruit and black pepper. It's full bodied and the tannins are rounded but noticeable with a finish that lingers for a minute or so.

Medium-High acid. Medium alcohol. Could smell some oak after opening. Smells like red fruit. Medium tannins. Some vanilla taste, and then lush cherry taste on the backend. Less vanilla/oak (and less interesting) on day two. Good overall value.

Bought several about 10 years ago for 11/b from a local independent vendor; at or near last bottle. Decanted with light sediment for its age. Purple; fragrant red fruit nose with hint of oak; red fruit, bit of tartness, a hint of decline--probably at best 2-3 years ago. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: For me, scores on a "100-point scale" are misleading. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. …

Drinking very well now (end of 2013). Consider decanting at least one hour to open up wine. Full body, dark fruit, tobacco. Smooth with a nice finish. We found the wine was not as tannic as some Rioja wines can be. Very much enjoyed.

Much like the Campo Viejo Crianza – plum, fig, dark cherry, some leather – but with notably softer tannins, significantly less rustic. I think I prefer the Crianza for week-day dinner and the Reserva for weekends and sipping.

Quite enjoyable for it suave, silky, elegant texture. Not much tannins, but the acids keep this well defined. The fruit is evolved and dusty with the wood manifesting itself as cinnamin and sandalwood rather than overt lumber or "coconut". A bit short, but the elegance and liquid velvet texture makes this a repeat buy for me, given the price.
