Hermes Vineyards Touriga Nacional

The vineyards are within five miles of two large bodies of water: Lake Erie and Sandusky Bay, which afford a longer, more temperate growing season. Planted on limestone ridges, with a mixture of well-drained sand, clay, and chalky limestone. The Hermes family, originally grape growers in the Moselle river valley in Germany, has farmed these ridges for 150 years. Lake Erie AVA.

Nice to see a U.S. winery try this Portuguese varietal. Distinctive flavour, typical of this grape. Not much fruit. Might go well with food. Overall value: 1 star of 5. Overall impression: a good effort with an unusual grape.
