I feel these are aging rather quickly for a Sauternes. In addition, I completely stand behind my previous note: Pleasant enough, but if you hunt around, for $48 you can get a Suduiraut, Rieussec, Climens, De Fargues, La Tour Blanche, etc... that will drink much better.

Very good - but I’ve seen this wine for $180+ on WineBid but I purchased it for $40 at Wegmans…I’ve been wanting to try it and it did not disappoint.

Monthly Tasting Group: Blind Worldwide Chardonnay (COV, Edina, MN) : Medium gold color. Drank a smal; glass over 30 minutes. Haven't had this in four years. It still shows nicely, orange, orange peel, citrus oil, floral, good acidity and balance. Dependable.

Had with almond cake for dessert. Surprisingly fresh; light and without a lot of complexity, but delicious with the cake. If you have this, drink up.

On the first day from "pop and pour", oxidative but still showing honey, golden fruit and spice. By the 3rd day in the refrigerator, it was undrinkable due to the oxidation. Score based on 1st day.

Monthly Tasting Group: Worldwide Chardonnay (Oceanaire, Mpls, MN) : Light gold color. Small pour. Ripe fruits, sweet, peach, spiced, cinnamon, creme brulee, caramelized, good acid. Seems a little less interesting now; I might be getting weary of this one.

This sauternes is pleasant enough, in a lighter style. But when you can buy Rieussec or La Tour Blanche for the same price or less, I'm not sure why you'd buy this. Too bad I found that out after buying a bunch of this.

This is still drinking quite well. It is hard to score Sauternes. 91-92?

This might be even a bit better than when we've had it before. Still a very attractive wine with a good balance to the fruit and sweetness. 91+ to 92pts.

My last note was spot-on. Update, this did improve with 10 days in the refrigerator. It slowly lost some sweetness and added a fruity oily waxy gracefulness. That is a good sign.

Dinner at Vic's (Vic's Fine Dining) : Drank a good-sized glass over about 45 minutes. Lovely tropical flavor, orane marmalade and burnt sugar creme brulee. It has good sweetness and flavor. It could use a touch more acid and is not overly complex. It is quite pleasureable to drink, and the lack of complexity prevents it from reaching the next level.

Dinner at Vic's (Vic's on the River, Mpls) : Light gold color. Drank 1+ glass from 750ml. Very nice with pineapple, nectarine, spice, coconut shavings, light body, enough acid to handle the sweetness. 91+pts.

This is is shaping up really nicely. Still reticent on nose and although there is good weight to the palate, the main event doesn't happen until the finish. And then there is honey and floral notes but with spice and a white pepper zing that lasts and lingers. I look forward to the next instalment in a year or so.

A customer brought this into the shop one cold Wednesday evening, for us to taste blind. Marmalade, botrytis and a hint of mushroom on the nose. Weighty palate, agree about the low acid. Still, pretty nice to say you were "drinking d'Yquem" on a Wednesday evening... (just whisper the "declassified" bit).

A Casual Tuesday at Crush with some guys from Toronto (Toronto, ON) : I suppose this show elements of a young d'Yquem, but I really don't think the quality is close. This isn't really any better than any other Sauternes at this price. Pours a very light transparent yellow. Nose has intense botrytis via mushroom and fruit is centered on lemon with elements of yellow tropical fruit poking through (mango and pineapple). Must see some new oak with notes of …
