Cork was beautiful and fresh, resisting the corkscrew component of the Durand since it was so plump and healthy, as if it was bottled recently. Nose gives off cherry pie and cedar, mint, inviting and alluring but a little bit flirty as well. Amazing freshness and brightness on the red fruit just as it enters your palate, good weight, but also still a strong acidic backbone accentuated a bit by the pop of graphite once it finally comes out. Finishes …

Decadent, inky purple, dark black currents, big mouthfeel with superior balance. Still young but offering such a tantalizing glimpse of future potential now.

Could not resist trying one for Christmas over a coupe days. Still young but exceptional. Incredible right off the bat. Luscious dark fruit and some chocolate and tobacco elements. A lot going on but this is just a delicious beycheyvelle vintage. Minimal sediment. Should age really well. 95-97++

Not the most pristine bottle and definitely showed the age. The cork was solid and thanks to a Durant came out whole but was fully wet. The level was just in neck and this looked like an auction bottle and much like most of the the variability is more than the wine data. Still very pretty to see it alive and so earthy , leathery and full of charm. Not sure how close this is to the actual wine of …

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London) : Earhty, blackcurrant, plums, sweet spice, a little fruit lozenge note, cedar and slightly saovury underpin. Medium plus intensity acidity, tiny touch lean on the palate, plenty of textured grip is talc textured, fruit persists, feels like it needs more time.

Holding up very well. Nose shows classic tobacco, cedar, dried earth, leather, dried black fruit, and some baking spices. Lovely. Full body, med acid, med tannin. Fully in sync and an absolute beauty right now. Should hang on for at least another 10 years. Great stuff!

Modnere enn Cos d'Estournel '95 drukket i samme flight.

Decanted for ~2 hours before dinner, paired with Braised Beef Short Rib w Crispy Baby Potato, Garden Herb Chimichurri . Great pairing but I expected a bit more from this wine. Might be a bit young yet. Unmistakably a great quality wine but lacking a bit of complexity at this point. Big nose of red fruits, tobacco. Balanced long finish that lacks a bit of depth. Might not have got enough air into this bottle.

Looking in the cellar for a wine to go with slow-roasted prime rib, the Bordeaux corner was screaming out “you can’t drink Burgundy ALL THE TIME!!!” This bottle seemed to be the loudest and it didn’t disappoint though the cork, while appearing clean and sound, was a major pain in the ass. The wine was classic Bordeaux all the way. Cedar, raw tobacco, graphite, humidor. Initial mouthfeel is ripe fruit, cassis, smoky; then some ripe tannins give it a little …

Lovely wine. Hard to stop drinking it. Probably the best of this vintage that I've had and one of the best Beychevelle overall. Only behind some awesome bottles of the 1985. In a near perfect spot. Tannins mostly integrated, with tertiary notes and spices in the forefront. 94-95

Dark inky purple in the glass, full-bodied mouthfeel, and still very young. Dark up-front fruit, of good and pure quality, nice balance, and a noticeable lift and finish. It was stored until recently in a cold fridge the past three years, so its maturity may have been stunted a bit.? Went deliciously with Chinese style pork and a sauteed vegetable dish.

Delicious already has some complexity but not from noticeable wood or age. Feminine and light in body with prominent nontropical fruit such as grapes! I haven’t had the 1982 in years, but when I did we drank a case. That wine was more brawny with more prominent wood, but still excellent fruit. It evolved much faster than the 2016 will. This wine is more like Chateau Margaux with its fine tannins and lighter body. I hope to try this out …

Excellent Beychevelle, still quite young. Needs at least 2-3 hours in the decanter. Mostly primary and secondary aromas and a bright and refreshing acidity: blackberries, blueberries, vanilla and notes of espresso beans. Will open my next bottle in 2031 to fully appreciate everything this wine has to offer. Potentially a 95+

CdB Picnic: Chateau Lafleur & The Aftermath (Tommy and Bianca's, Mpls) : Very small taste. PNP, open for a couple hours, but no decant. Feels a bit closed down, structured, firm tannins, dark berries, wood, a little austere tonight.

This pours medium garnet in the glass with light bricking. The nose is tight on opening eventually showing sweet cedar, charcoal, forest undergrowth, dried black currant, dark cherry, violets, and grilled beef. The palate enters on sweet dark fruit. Tannin is medium with medium plus acid. Remarkably structured considering the age. The finish shows just a little oak bitterness, yet there is some sweet fruit. Good but not top shelf with life ahead.

The nose is arguably the greatest strength of this wine, refined and pretty with an array of aromas ranging from anise and mint to cedar and mushroom. Has a pretty core of red fruit that leans to cranberry and sour cherry with a somewhat unremarkable finish. It hits some highs, particularly aromatically, but leaves you wanting just a bit more. I’d call this a “donut” wine that’s just a bit hollow in the middle. I much prefer Beychevelle in the …

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim. Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate and complex. Showing black currants, black plums, cherries, spices, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and light forest floor. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. Decanted and served within 30 minutes. Definitely some decanting advisable but not essential. The wine is so pretty and one more of the great arbitrages ( albeit not that cheap anymore) in quality vs price. 2007 seems to be developing nicely (the 2007 Montrose that followed this , Papies 93+, was even more glorious) and especially terroirs such as St Julien with its juicier edge definitely perform so well. Very beautiful wine and at a great time to have it …

* I dont know if this is the best vintage of Beychevelle, but we will hopefully live long enough to find out and see. Actually not....Because you will have no benchmark for it by the time it matures. The great 82 will be in the rear view mirror and the 89 will be holding on to dear life. But I would say, that I see more stuffing and grace inside this than the 09/10. Even though this is still fully …

Very limited and even incomplete notes (various vintages of Leoville Barton) given the circumstances of the tasting. 1995 La Mission Haut-Brion [94] 1998 Pavie [94] 2009 Lynch-Bages [94] 1973 Mouton Rothschild [94] 1989 Beychevelle [94] 1988 Rieussec [93] While the first vintage as First Growth Mouton Rothschild was a bucket list wine, this was otherwise the wine of the night. Dinner at Liu Fu Si Fang Cai : My contribution. Consistent with my previous notes, such a classic, elegant rendition of a Bordeaux from a bygone era. Savoury leather with pretty red fruit, lovely backbone of acidity. Very classic unlike the wines that came after.

Mirroring my note from 10 months ago, this is fully mature and fully integrated. It does not have the depth and complexity of the legendary 1982, but it is probably the second best premillennial Beychevelle. Easy to drink with or without food, only a light finish prevents a higher rating. I do not feel that this has the structure to match the longevity of the 1982, which is still at the top of its game, and should be drunk in …

The 1989 Beychevelle shows its best as soon as it finds its way into the decanter, offering a beautiful red berry, star anise nose with a pencilly, mineral element. With air, the fruit darkens and loamy notes emerge as a dirty Brettanomyces influence expands to dominate the other constituent parts which simply aren't gutsy enough to rise above it. This is relatively light on the palate and short on the finish. While this delicacy is atypical to '89, the light …

Exactly how I like my aged claret. Still showing great complex cassis with a fresh red-fruited acidity at the back of the palate that supports but doesn’t overpower. Soft and silky with a great umami note. Nose is pages of an old book, old leather, black fruit, cassis. Could swim in this.

PnP - drikker glimrende allerede.

The 2016 Beychevelle shows an expansive, billowy, polished nose with admirable depth of fruit; boysenberry preserve, plum, and black cherry beside a little peppercorn and ganache. At age 8, this has almost integrated its oak (though it really rears its head after 9 hours of air). Speaking to the proportion of Merlot in the assemblage, this is a round, even plush wine in the mouth, though its acidity, fresh fruit quality, and minerally notes keep it fresh and vibrant. While …

This is stunning. From start to finish, this is a complete wine. The nose pops with ripe currants, blackberries, flowers, and leafy tobacco. The palate offers vibrancy, concentration, length, and a classic structure with multiple layers of black and red fruits that start off strong, and keep on going. This is perhaps the best vintage of Beychevelle ever produced. Drink from 2026-2060.
