Guilbert Gillet Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes Vieilles Vignes

Slow ox’ed for an hour. Initially just refined oak, then violet, red cherry, some black cherry peeking out, orange peel, red plum, sauvage, smoked meat, cardamom, and forest floor. With time, a lovely red bean paste flavor emerged. Medium+ acidity, medium+ fine-grained but slightly grippy tannins, medium body, and medium+ savory, spicy, and herbaceous finish. Somewhat hollow on the palate indeed, but fun to get a peek into the style through his first vintage.

Utterly shocked by the price, no thanks

Opened in HK. Slow-oxed for a while before enjoying. Great bottle. Guilbert Gillet clearly handled the heat of the vintage very well, as this was quite fresh, bright and lively. Didn't have the reductive notes that I've found in his 21 Savignys - though that being said it's been a few months since I've had any and a lot can change during that time for such a young wine. GG's 2020 all have the same issue which is the fruit is not put together. There is a bit hollowness behind the otherwise big structure. 2021 is much better

Light-moderate seductive aromas of floral red fruits. Moderate flavors of fresh red fruits and bramble, some bitterness, and light tannins on the finish. Medium bodied with good finesse. A 90 minute decant helped the wine open a bit, but this is young and it just need time. Some enjoyment now, but best to wait until 2028+. 92+

Infant. Good weight and concentration with enough oak backbone, but just drinks so tight even after a good decant. Wouldn't touch this for 6+ years and hard to rate now as it doesn't show much.

First taste of this Gillet. A good terroir (Arlaud makes one too). Showing sexy dark red fruit, medium bodied, nothing overdone. Good follow through. Complexity and depth is still to come but I think this has potential. Would like to revisit in 4-5 years but hard to find this one.
