Wow, really enjoyed this wine. So good with pasta amatriciana. Cherry surrounded by secondary earthy flavors. I've been drinking too many young Barolo's. So nice to have one that's been sitting in the cellar for a few years. Ready to drink now.

Nebbiolo Night! (David's Place, Hamilton, ON) : [Tasted Double Blind] This pours light ruby in the glass with light bricking. The nose shows glimpses of something nice, but ultimately it’s held back in intensity showing soy sauce, dried orange peel, woodsy mulch, raisins, and a vague touch of rose petals. Perfectly balanced and aged Barolo with life still left in it. Tannins are perfectly integrated and smooth, enough acidity left to balance fruit and give full mouth feel with the slightests of puckering. Hints of cocoa and spice on nose. Maraschino Cherry on taste with hints of liquorice, chinato. Wish I had more.

Corked and completely clapped out anyway. You could tell there was some interesting pickled walnut and cherry aromatics going on underneath, but sadly undrinkable. I am increasingly cross with the charlatans who sold this to me on the promise of greatness. Sure, you have to take old bottles as you find them but all so far opened have been well and truly past it.

I remember this as being quite charming when bought some years ago. this is now the last bottle and should have matured. Though, it did not yet bring the wine together. Relatively mellow and some sweet notes with spices and some faint cherry and phenol notes, overall not in a balanced place at this moment. Just lovely...my God, I love aged Nebbiolo. This is exactly what I look for in an aged wine. It has preserved youthful and lively red fruit and floral flavors balanced with subtle but deep delicious tertiary notes. A good older Barolo with a wet leather and damp leaf nose, a bit of wet dog and dried blood mixed in also. Palate thinning and perhaps drying out at this point but still thoroughly enjoyable if you enjoy aromatics more than mouthfeel. Delicious. People who demand fruit will hate this and give this an 85, people who live for aromatics will wonder why I underrated this by two points.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Smells of chestnuts, dried fig, grilled meats and dark chocolate. The palate is full, round and glossy. There's plenty of mocha/chocolate notes and a jube-like quality to the fruit. It gets more savoury with air and tannins are relatively plump yet the wine has freshness.
