First bottle either flawed or way past peak. Second bottle was spectacular.

Past peak, barely drinkable for about 30 minutes, then discarded. Could not detect other compounding factors, just tasted faded and gone. Could potentially be cork/bottle variation based on recent more positive reviews, or perhaps there was another flaw at work that I could not discern. Have 1 more bottle and plan to revisit soon.

This wine was recently re-reviewed by the wine advocate and received rave reviews, but I should mention that the tasting occurred at the winery, likely under ideal storage conditions. pnp - This wine did get better in the glass over two hours, however, there's some fine astringency and some fine tannins remaining. I don't believe that this wine is tired at all since it could use another 5-10 years to get to its peak. This is a very varietal and typical of other Don Melchor vintages - not the best vintage but overall a good vintage in its drinking window.

What beauty! I have only passing familiarity with Chilean reds, but this is first class, no matter where it is from. Soft swells of fruit with floral notes envelope the younger and coat the mouth. While not a shy wallflower, it is by no means a fruit bomb, nor is it unbalanced. It has a restrained power, without heat or sharp edges. At 24, there are no signed of bricking and it is drinking as rather youthful.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (91%) and Cabernet Franc (9%) from the Don Melchor vineyard planted between 1979 and 1992. Harvested between April 1st and 29th. 4th Saturday Brown Bagger: The Americas (J&L's) : Blind. Mature brick red color. Aromas of tobacco, plum and lavender. Full-bodied with soft tannin and flavors of red berry fruit, coffee, tobacco and dried herbs. Easy to pick out as our Don Melchor in this flight. WOTF for a few of the tasters. 14/ 14.5 Surprisingly fresh still, lots of mint. Dried cassis, sweet red plums but more freshness than the 2014. Delicate notes of pencil shavings, dried leaves. Elegant but still grippy med+ tannins, but more on the mellow side. Would be quite brutal when young. Raisins, red cherries, cacao, black tea. Some dark chocolate. Med+ acidity that kicks towards the finish, which has lots of leather, savouriness. Wow, quite a long finish. 17.5

Just stunning. Still got many years ahead, but drinks very nice now. Decanted and left for 2 hours before drinking. Still opened more in the glass.

Very dark ruby color. Decanted just before dinner. Cassis and plum, along with a hint of graphite. Main difference with the ‘06 opened first was that the tannis seemed fully integrated here, vs not quite for the younger one. Beautiful wine. Excellent paired with the pan-seared bison ribeye and roasted potatoes and squash.

Holiday tasting (EBCC) : Our penultimate bottle, double decanted off its sediment an hour before the walk around tasting began. Somewhat youthful dark color belies its age. Black fruit with herb and loam undertones. Has a subtle green quality as well. A terrific showing- opened some eyes tonight.

Took this to dinner at Salt of the Earth restaurant in Fennville, Michigan. 6th time I have had this wine and one of the best showings yet. Not decanted. Soft and supple texture. Integrated tannins. Notes of sesame seeds, cassis, licorice and rich black fruit. 94 points.

Decanted off its sediment and followed over a couple of hours. Crimson red core with just a bit of bricking- not sure I’d guess this is twenty years old. The first glass shows plum and mulberry aromas with hints of saddle leather underneath. The palate is integrated and shows plenty of dark plummy fruit. Better than the last bottle for sure. Changing and improving over 3 hrs in decanter. Fruit is relatively muted but huge savory, earthy, cooling quince/herbal notes, with that persistent and (slightly too much for me) oaky chocolate note. Fine grained nearly resolved tannins and at least moderate acidity that stood out, I think a little out of balance to the structure otherwise. Gives me confidence to hold my next bottle with no rush.

Try this wine over several hours. Ours was initially thin, tobaccoey, decomposing leaf, toasty note predominant , but developed interesting dried plummy, black currant, quince, mineral, and leathery depth after about an hour or so in decanter. Good presence on the palate, has the weightlessness of a high quality wine and a lengthy finish but perhaps past prime as others suggest. Will try giving my next bottles some additional air.

Opaque, deep eggplant color. Cassis, mocha, and a bit of sage on the nose. Full-bodied. Black fruit, cocoa powder. Integrated tannins balanced with acidity to keep it fresh. Brilliant.

Poured one of my last 2 bottles last night. Totally agree with other recent comments, so I wont blather on. Still amazing, slightly past prime, will be finishing my last bottle within the next 2 months. Very sad to say goodbye to this vintage.

Popped and poured at Gianni's in the former Versace Mansion (South Beach). Purchased upon release and properly stored in my cellar. Wide open from the beginning; no decant necessary. The wine possessed a beautiful boquete of black fruit and violets. There was a slight bricking at the rim, but had a vibrant red color. The mouthfeel was thick and viscous; the taste sublime. At or slightly past it's prime, but absolutely delicious.

Decanted off its sediment though there wasn't much- lost perhaps half an ounce of wine with sediment as the bottle had been standing for three weeks. A bit of bricking at the meniscus. Initial notes of violets, black fruit and herbs with leather undertones. Herb and eucalyptus emerges as it breathes, then recedes a bit leaving cedar, leather and plum. Fully-integrated and balanced, this shows mixed red and black fruit, leather, herbs, cooked vanilla and floral qualities. Lengthy finish. 94 …
