Domaine Roulot, Meursault Premier Cru, Les Boucheres

Pronounced nose of white flora, lime, grapefruit. Tasted at Pearl of Burgundy La Paulee hence the short notes as theres was too much to go around.

Opened at the POB Gala Dinner in HK. Served from magnum. Small glass but drinking very nicely. Gorgeous golden colour. Great balance of richness and acidity, and felt in a great spot.

Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center and clear rims. The medium- intensity nose put forth lemon zest, vanilla, and almond paste notes. It was still pretty tight. In the mouth, this wine was light and refined with firm acidity, most likely due to the fact that it was still pretty young and tight. It had very good length. Ordered this 2004 Roulot Meursault Perrieres from a restaurant wine list. Lots of drive and freshness. Forward white tree fruits and supple spices. However if we had to split hairs here, it was more simple and forward than more recent vintages of Roulot Meursault Perrieres. Nonetheless it’s still very enjoyable and drinking beautifully. (91/100)

From a magnum, unlike other 09s this boucheres showed no signs of fatigue. Not particularly ripe and perfectly aging in the bottle. Velvet aicidity, honey lemon, fresh flowers, crushed stone and hint of coconut. It’s a very well made wine and particularly well in a magnum. Still a long way to go, but delicious now.

the last of my bottles and how very wonderful it was too - quite a pale yellow - an iron fist in a velvet glove - excellent!

A private dinner (Restaurant d'Oude Schuur, Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium) : Magnum. Exceedingly rare. Wonderful and immediately appealing nose, rich but classical expression, gun flint, well judged oak, real depth and concentration, Meursault mealiness, hazelnuts; rich attack, energetic and youthful, silky texture, develops a nice buttery creaminess, quite firm bitters slightly block the flow on the palate, rich citrus fruit with a tropical edge; salty finish, outstanding length.

Very puzzling and challenging wine. It started out healthy pale yellow and deepened considerably with air to almost mid gold. (I’ve seen color transformation with air before on white Burgundy but not to this degree.) The aroma is unique, unlike any other Burgundy, something wild and mysterious. Zachys BYO Lunch in Burgundy (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune) : Small glass, brief note. Dense and powerful maturing orchard fruit with some lemon peel. Slightly more mature than I would prefer, so I preferred the Lafon 2004 Perrieres tasted earlier.

White Burgundy (@Private location) : Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah Double decanted Clear, medium golden color. Clean, fully developed medium+ intense nose with interesting notes of curry, ripe fruit and slight hints of oak. Dry, medium acidity, full bodied, medium+ intense flavors with lots of salt, some spicyness limestone and hints of oak in the long finish. It has power but in a very elegant way. Beautiful Burgundy at its peak where it will stay for the next 5-10+ years.

Similar to my last note last year. Slight reduction initially. Mineral, citrus. Tight at the start, as it was popped and poured, but opens with air. Good acid. Pure and precise with stony notes on the palate. More lean than 04 Boillot MP served alongside. It did not have the tropical note of the Boillot..

Was way too cold at opening, so it took a while for this to show. Once it did, it simply moved up and up over two to three hours. Awesome, sophisticated, regal.

Medium straw. Quite closed up initially and I got some herbal notes that blew off. But oh, when it started to open, this was great. Intense minerality and salinity…that gains depth and intensity on the palate as it sits in the glass. Beautiful texture, quite racy and very complex. Long finish. Hold for the long haul or decant for a couple of hours. I'd probably even rate it higher.

Just the faintest hint of age in the glass, still very bright. Tremendous, complex, inviting nose, touch of oak, toffee, smoke, pure chardonnay fruit, slight reduction that melts nicely into the background. Perfect balance on the palate, no sense of heat at all, still vinous and lively. An ethereal and contemplative white wine, superb. Dan hosting Burgundy night at Ruth's. 12.5% abv

Rare Meursault Les Bouchères : Domaine Roulot, 0.16ha Very clean and super elegant like a good Chevalier-Montrachet. Different from Coche Dury, Roulot has a truly austere and very classic. Fragrant and very very beautiful nose of mineral, terroir. The texture is splendid pure and elegant. The finish is linger and vibrant. Love at first sip !!! Drink now - 2030+

An impromptu wine dinner (La Trompette, Chiswick, London) : Muted after the more youthful Meix Chevaux, this was complex, spicy, very fine, very lovely, but much more sedate and middle-aged than the bottle we had in January.

No Keith but... (The Glasshouse, Kew, London) : Mouthwatering nose, penetrating and vibrant, citric, powdery, and with an amazing persistent spiciness. Thrilling.

Restrained, refined and tight, bristling with energy and razor sharp with its mineral and citrus personality. There was a little fennel action to the aroma along with white peach and a finish that had great cut and persistence.

2004 Vintage Burgundy Tasting and Oxidation Check (Part 1) (BLT Fish, New York City) : Pure but complex; elegant with subtle power: Roulot at his best. This needs several years of bottle age, but the acid-fruit balance is perfect, and stony minerality drives through to a brilliant finish. Certainly the top wine of the flight.

Elegant, with cool fruit aromas, a touch of celery, plenty of white peach and loads of minerals. It was very dense and chalky with fabulous rocky detail. It was long and linear and whilst the preceding Puligny was very good this made it look a little pedestrian.

Vin Vino Wine 2004 Meursault Tasting : First pour of the day for this one. Crystal yellow color. Marzipan, subtle dusty lemons, grapefruit nose. Tart, lemony, more prominent on the front of the palate (tip of the tongue), edgy, mineral, like sucking on lemon rocks. Medium finish, lots of acid, juicy and edgy. A long runner that will be spectacular when the acid calms down. Outstanding.

Wine While Eating Well in Burgundy; 4/26/2010-4/30/2010 (Cote d'Or) : Slightly floral with lemon and lemon peel aromas. A bit firm and austere, but opening with more air. Probably close to peak drinking window now.

Very consistant with the bottle had two weeks ago. Beautful ripe lemon custard and wet rocks on the nose with a bit lusher palate tonight. Still great acidity on the finish. Absolutely delicious.

Lemon/lime custard nose with tons of wet stone and just a bit of grilled pineapple after some time in the glass. Steely yellow fruit on the palate with an intense mineral core and refreshing acidity on the finish. A beautiful wine that I look forward to watching its evolution.

palest yellow - very young and closed with the merest hint of what will surely follow: an impeccably balanced and delicate wine - leave (it has been rated as it is stands today - can only improve)
