Drank with JdS. Rich, dark yellow colour, intense. On the noses needs a little time to unfold. Leathery honey, dried apricot, turkish fruit. On palate is it an adventure- gently strolling like a cloud of developed fruit, it explodes on yoir moitj. High, ranking acidity pulling the intense flavoirs of yellow citrus fruits out which seem to expand, only to endure even though you swallow the wine repeatedly. Wow, what a finish. The end of the hitchhikers guide to the …

Slightly mute on initial opening, but then unfurled nicely. Citrus, honey, ... Just starting to come into its drinking window, I think

Tasted blind with a group of friends who are highly knowledgeable about a broad range of wines. Although all appreciated the balance and intensity of this wine, they, like me, found the aromatics not revealing of the varietal, Chenin blanc, of which this wine is composed. My personal feeling is that this is too extracted, has too much oak, and the end result is a loss of fruit characteristics. Definitely a great location for growing Chenin blanc but the approach …

A bit too shy on the nose, in the mouth it scores 95. Sooo elegant, yet powerful and complex. Beautiful!

Good concentration, excellent balance and beautiful Chenin flavours. I took 2 bottles to a lunch and not one drop was left by the time pudding arrived. Somehow seems a complete wine (I wonder if this is due to the vines being ungrafted on red sand). Ready to drink but no hurry.

Shale, stone fruit, quite dry - a treat to drink.

This is one of the most taut, tensile to the point of austerity wines I can recall having in some time that wasn't a trocken riesling. It smells like flint and apple bushels and leaves the impression these chenin grapes were wrung out for everything they're worth, then turns from liquid to solid in the mouth with a grainy, sand-spackled texture. There's a hint of chenin waxiness but otherwise this is this is more about the brighter, higher-toned flavors.

100% Chenin Blanc from a small parcel in the west of Skurfberg at 550 meters above sea level. The bush vines stand here in sandy soils with clay and iron in the underground. The wine is aged in used barrels, 14% Alcohol. Wow, what a gorgeous smell! In addition to delicate reduction, there are flavors of orange peel, chamomile, ripe grapefruit, peach, a little vanilla and blossom honey, very complex. Also a lot of layers on the palate, strength, finesse …

Citrus !!!! Very fresh but lacking a bit body and minerality for a higher score. Quite onedimensional even after 3 h of decanting. Also quite short.

Dinner with Cathy and invited winemakers (Somerset West) : Sourced from northern Paardeberg/Skurfberg (550 m) on vines planted in 1981 and 1984, soils being red sand over clay. Dry farmed and ungrafted bush vines. 1900 bottles. Delicate and fragrant nose with remarkable intensity. Initially read reduction in that more cordite starter pistol nose that morphs to a wealth of Valencia orange, chamomile, rooibos and citrus. With gorgeous concentration, the wine is full-bodied, grippy yet rich, precise and focussed with an …
