Barboursville Vineyards Viognier Reserve

Same note as last time; well balanced and tasty all around, with a lot of body and ripe flavors. Certainly has a year or two left in it - alas, I'm fresh out of my own stash!

White and yellow flowers, spice, muscadine; honey and stone fruit, oak/vanilla. Body is medium, some cream and oil, medium- acidity with a touch of bitter on the finish.

Pale straw yellow color. The nose has lots of floral notes like all the flowers at a wedding mixed together, apricot, cucumber water and what I'll call witchazel. Texture is not bad with some chewiness. The flavors include ripe apricot, crushed flowers and fairly bright acidity. Finish is fairly short and a bit flat. Pleasant enough but lacking in a wow factor in any dimension.

The 2014 Barboursville Viognier was a pale yellow color, which is a very light color for a viognier. The nose yielded an abundance of wood, peach, cucumber, and some floral notes. The mouth feel was light to medium bodied with low levels of acidity. The taste provided a woody taste of mineral and some peach. This finish was short lived. Nice floral nose. Rich texture on the palate, with some pear and citrus. A pretty good effort.
