Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2024 Edition; 10/18/2024-10/20/2024 : Dry cherry, herbs , soft spice. This is definitely in the style that is Berger younger than older as the palate dries out with time and just makes the wine a touch rough. Definitely good it’s time to open up so we would argue for a small decant too.91

This was a journey. Decanted at 2:50pm and tasted (closed to nose and mouth). At 4:10pm starting, barely, to open. At 5:10pm further slight development. At 6:30pm the nose has subdued aromas of cherries, roses, and leather. The palate has cherries, mushrooms, and garrigue. By 7:30pm, 4-1/2 hours after decanting, the wine was finally open. The nose was as before, but with more presence. The palate was also more present, with fine tannins, a near balance with acid, but not …

Quite dark (crimson) in color for Nebbiolo. Also, not particularly expressive of variety in place, shading quite heavily toward high quality Tuscan Sangiovese, my double-blind guess. Bold! Serious acid and tannins are certainly present. Edgy, even somewhat austere, perhaps showing the uneven ripeness that typifies this vintage. Overall, a wine of tremendous substance, but difficult to come to grips with. It needs time. Recommend holding through 2030.

Nutmeg, toast, brown sugar, pine seed, cumin, structural tannins, up to 20% Nebbiolo Rose biotype. Very different vs Rabaja but as enjoyable! 94+

Seemed older in the nose than in the mouth. Based on the nose I thought it was older. Still had good fruit. Medium finish. Overall I liked it

One if the prettiest Barbaresco's I have come across. (Overnight decant) Elegance and pure enjoyment. Blind tasted a Chef friend who is is a Piedmont-phile. His reaction was quite memorable. Exquisite candied fruit that gives away to a brush of voilet. Transitions to an herbal coated pebble w a tannic grip that leaves you lusting for your next sip. Bottle age has been kind to this Queen. Good or Great for another 7 to 10 years. Find it..Buy it. 96 …
