Januik Syrah Ciel du Cheval Vineyard

Probably already peaked. Incredibly smooth right out of the bottle, almost merlot like. After a day open, the syrahness of it came back through.

My last bottle of this wine. It still has life ahead of it. It went nice with a beef short rib that had been braised with a CA Syrah. It wasn't as good as the Lewelling Cab that I had alongside it, but it was still tasty.

Blackberry, black pepper, plum, violets. Medium-full body. Medium acidity. Medium, velvety tannins. Medium-long finish. Went really well with steak. At or near peak.

My wine group had this at a Januik wine tasting, at a NYC restaurant, where it was opened, but not decanted for at least 30 minutes before we drank it. Just not as good as the Cabernets and the Petit Verdot that we had. My second of 3 bottles, and given the other Januik wines, I am disappointed.

Part of a Soos Creek/Januik tasting with my wine group. Something has to come in last, right? Maybe it just didn't show well vs. the other reds, which were all Bordeaux blends. Overwhelmingly fruit forward with a massive hit of vanilla/oak. Maybe a year or two of aging will help. For now, if I open another bottle, it will have to be with bbq ribs or something similar.

Inky purple. Pepper on the nose. Long finish. Could use more time to fully come together. Day 2: Gained a point or two with a day opened.

Not as good as the Cab. Rich with cherry and dark fruits. spices and medium finish.

Nose; blackcurrant with hints of smoke Rich with slight dustiness and viscosity, SOFT tannins Pepper emerging gradually; long finish turning to mineral and dry tannins Deeper into the glass, a lot of juiciness emerges
