Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio All'Oro

Was never tasted. Can’t recall we had more than 1 bottle ever.

Spicy, acid DNL

Nice bottle, though I'm a bit surprised by how advanced it is for a Riserva at 11-12 years of age. Significant bricking around the rim. Good flavors though, opened up nicely after 30 minutes or so. Dark fruited (black cherry, blackberry, also some red cherry) and chocolate. Structure is decent enough, but there's no reason to hold though it probably has a couple of solid years left.

Firm tannins on opening that softened quickly; good complexity and depth; great dark red fruit flavor; lasting finish.

As part of our Brunello trip to Montalcino, 2021, we did a side-trip to Livorno - inspired by Stanley Tucci's Searching for Italy, to indulge is some wonderful seafood the this 2012 Reserve in addition. Brown hue, subtle nose. Modest first taste of dark fruits - cherries, currants, blackberries into a long finish and long linger . Wonderfully developed leather, barn earth, hint of pepper and of spice. A good wine drinking well

Too early, tannins still kicking a bit. Lovely wine, better in a few years.
