Chateau Tauzinat l'Hermitage, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Perfumey and a nice dark berry essence. Easy to drink. Let it open up for a bit.

This wine needs to be decanted to open up before drinking. After aerating into a glass just before drinking it was hard to detect much fruit on the nose or tasting, overwhelmed by bitter mouth drying tannins. Stoppered and tried again 2 days later and the tannins had mellowed and dark fruit, cedar and earthy overtones made it much more enjoyable to drink.

This little gem overdelivers with rich, ripe black plum and blue fruits, finishing with typical forest floor and chalky earthiness. If the rich fruit on the initial attack were to carry through on the finish, this would be ranked up there with the best St. Emilion Grand Crus. Maybe this chateau will make the leap in 2016 or 2018/9?

St Emillion nog gemaakt volgens de Parker-Parker stijl van de jaren 90-late 2000. Overoaky dus, beetje koffie in de neus na een dag, gesloten voor de rest en saai. Houtzagerij in de mond die alles overheerst en heel geparkeriseerd door zijn gebrek aan zuren, onevenwichtig. Het mooie rijpe 2015 fruit kon gered worden hier met meer gebruikte barriques. Eigen projectje van Bernard uit de bekende negoce familie Moueix, mijlenver van hun toppers. Duidelijk nog niet in vorm maar geen lekker …
