Cirillo, 1850 Ancestor Vine Grenache, Barossa Valley

Similar to the 8/1/09 bottle but fully mature at this time. Delicious with my wife's chicken paprika.

Hot, even after 4 hours, but really nice pure grape taste, almost like frozen grape flavoring, but not as sugary. Smell is more aligned with what I associate with Granache, bright strawberry, but again with the ethanol. Some of the rounded, softer flavors I expect from an older wine, but still pretty tannic. Finish is ok fruit wise, but longer on the alcohol. Overall, while I liked the fruit juiciness, not worth $30, nor the cellar space.

tastes of prunes and alcohol. really didn't enjoy it. question whether it was too old or a bad bottle

A big, fruity Grenache that is pure blackberry in its aromas and flavors, touched with floral notes in the finish. I really enjoyed it, but it will not be to everyone's taste.

this is a very sweet, intense, fruity Aussie all the way wine. residual grains throughout bottle. on its own, this is just over powering stuff. for those who like it big, this one is it. I prefer more balance and acid - this didnt have any...

A sweet, powerful expression of Grenache with barely any tannin to speak of. No doubt this is Barossa, but the old vines create a really wonderful wine.

Definitively Australian. Very fruit forward, candy-like, tinge of alcohol. Red fruits, low acid. Decent.

Tough to rate by numbers. Loads of concentrated black cherry liqueur and some tang. Despite the super sweet tannins that are almost confectionary, I can't say its overdone or overripe per se. Hedonistic but I don't enjoy the style like I used to.

A fruit centered grenache. Nose was full of wild berry, raspberry, and black cherry, with a liquor quality to it. Palate, was round smooth and ripe, though not overdone or flabby. Lengthy full finish, though a little simple. Carries it's alcohol well, though its noticeable. Throughly enjoyed, though prefer a spicier grenache style.

Another wine from the Garagiste garage sale mystery case... Not really one to love Barosaa Valley wines, this one was pretty nice. Sour cherry, chocolate, dust / chalk and vegetable notes, on both the nose and the palate. Like the Girardin before it, does feel like there's some tannin from the oak, but definitely more from the skins on this one. There's low acidity, medium tannins and a mid-length, but hot finish. A little alcoholic at first but this seemed to mellow quickly as the wine opened up. Did not decant but popped and poured out of the wine cooler and then let sit in the glass for about 30 minutes. It settled in to be a very lush, fruity, elegant glass -not over done (more old world than new). Medium sparkling red color, maybe a little short on the finish. Medium red color. Aromas of red plums, smoke and spices. Rich fruit in the mouth with nice old vine depth. A bit alchoholic but not too heavy. Like a baby Torbreck Les Amis.

Rasberry, strawberry nose. Seems hot to me on the palate but went well with some grilled steaks. Best red wine I've had with a screw top so far.....lets see how it does after a day in the fridge.
