Korken satt litt løst og forsvant ned i flasken. Noen tegn på lekasje. Ful, relativ kraftig farge. Klar. Lukt dominert av honning og litt plomme/aprikos. Søtt anslag. Høy viskositet. God fylde. Sødmen er godt balansert med syren. Smaksrik og lang. En god spennende Sauternes.

The 2010 Filhot is a blend of 60% Sémillon, 36% Sauvignon and 4% Muscadelle. It was vinified in stainless steel vats then spent many months in merrain oak barrels from Allier (including 30% new). 13.5% abv written on the label. Its features a fresh bouquet of roasted pineapple, candied lemon, quince sauce and a subtle beeswax. Generous and truly syrupy, the palate offers flavors of exotic fruits (mango and passion fruit), a discreet honeyed background, a touch of mint leaf …

Agree with other comments, candied orange, apricot, easy drinking and a crowd pleaser at a great price.

Full yellow/gold. Aroma of peaches and a little iodine. Musky flavour of peach, apricot, hints of mint and crystallised ginger. It’s not super-sweet, or very acidic, just elegant and balanced at this stage. Be interesting to try again in 10 years.

A very good, if not terribly interesting Sauternes that ticks all the boxes - honey, spun sugar, orange and apricot. Not cloying, but not much textural interest either. I might suggest this with pates or foie gras over pudding.

Prince Saturday Tasting - Bordeaux (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street) : Aromas of mandarin, tangerine backed by lime and kumquat, tiny horse sweat note, sweet spice, slight vanilla, pretty nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, a little sausage meat savouriness underpins the lusciously sweet mandarin/tangerine marmalade. Very slightly cloying on the medium plus length finish.

On the orange fruit side of the style range, with plenty of mangoes, overripe apricot, candied orange rind, vanilla, and creme brulee, the wine is correctly situated on the corner of decadently sweet, and fresh with acidity, finishing with honeyed tangerines, vanilla bean and roasted pineapples in the endnote.

Madness and mayhem in Spöland (Spöland, North Sweden) : Will never die. Beautiful amber. Rich Sauternes aromas with lussebulledeg (saffron dough), caramelized sugar, honey suckle, peach, grass, hay, summer days, small rancio… etc. In the mouth: started out a little hollow, but with some air grew beautifully. Acidity is perfect, sweetness fading and the feeling of this wine is simply phenomenal.

Pretty enjoyable. Sauternes yes though not super characterful. I think this is my 3rd review of this wine and each is different! So take your pot luck. PS. Half bottle. Drink now or within 3 years.

Monthly Boys' Wine Night - Champagne & Old Bordeaux (Island Room, Hong Kong Country Club, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong) : Deep copper coloured. Nose of surprisingly fresh mandarin orange peel with its oil from the skin, kumkwat, toffee. Treacle/molasses. Palate is surprisingly fresh and alive acidity followed by burnt caramel and sour mandarin orange that has almost been fermented. Heady. Good with a late night post-dinner cigar.

First time trying this producer - it was a disappointing for me (perhaps its the bottle). Drank over 2 days (half was pour, half was recork and frdge). Wine faded same evening, with short thin finish. Day 2 was a little better to start, then fades as well. From this bottle, I preferred to drink Carmes de Rieussec.

Had with deep fried Chinese cabbage rolls. Really brought out the toffee and musky aromatics. Quite spicey and lychee like- almost late harvest gewurz in style. Good balance, and good value as always. Drink now to 5 years, from half.

La Nuit des Garcons (Grill Restaurant, Hong Kong Country Club, Hong Kong) : Finale to a panoply of contrasting wines over a long and raucous dinner.....this was courtesy of Jeremy at Watson's from their cellar collection. Totally erased damp cellar label but encouraging high neck fill. Very deep copper-gold colour. Nose of burnished hand-hammered copper and burnished copper sheet. Palate is so fresh still...blow-torched, slightly richer than normal creme brulee and lots of bitter seville marmalade, burnt oranges....but very 'golden …

Yes, but a bit rough, alcoholic. Tasty if a bit chunky, Hopefully will smooth out a bit as there is a lot going on. Worth a try; but perhaps not for a few years

It's surprisingly savoury. And the alcohol is a bit prominent. Needs to settle down? Or heading downhill? I'm a fan of Filhot so a bit surprised tonight.

Colour: light gold Nose: mango, stewed apricot, lemon, lime, stewed quince. Tonic water. Cinnamon. Very rich and sweet. Palate: very rich and sweet. Stewed nectarine and mandarins, apricot. Stewed quince. Touch of lemon and lime. Cinnamon. Unctuous, rich and sweet, but with good fresh mild acidity still there. Touch of phenolics too. Sightly earthy. Rich and smooth mouthfeel, glycerol, but also slightly chewy. It's a big, rich, sweet wine. Lots of to it. 13,5% alcohol.

Tipping to the point of oxidation I tend to like a bit less, as it's thoroughly nutty with nice viscosity, but the fruit notes are vanishing or very faint at best. Still had some semblance of acid present. All in all, what it should be at 45 years old.

good complexity - ginger, jasmine, apricot, persimmon, a green note, a little crayon/VA, bit saffrony; quite some spice - ginger, poached pear/apricot/fruit in green jasmine tea, bit of toffee, nice balance, sweet and round and viscous but good acidity, decent length with a slight burnt sugar flavour. Very good, would defo buy again

MW Institute 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Sydney, Australia) : Earth, orange peel and spice. Palate does show its sweetness, ending up a little on the cloying side. I think it'll come into balance with age but for now it wasn't overly enjoyable.

Nice Sauternes, white peach, dried apricot, honeysuckle and petrol on the nose and palate. I was interested by the fact that despite the age this bottle tasted similar to many much young Sauternes that I've had recently. Would absolutely not guess this was 43 years old. Maybe 10.

Honeyed fruits, herbal, tea, oxidative notes. This improved with a couple days in the fridge but was clearly better a decade ago (and I like necro-wines).

Saturday night in the O.C. (Chez GlennK) : From 375 ml. Clear light amber-honey hue. Notes of pine needles, honey, apricots, allspice. This needed an hour of decanting to open and freshen, and could have used more time. A fine example of aged Sauternes.

From a half, purchased at auction. Orange colored. Nose of honey, saffron: not simple/one layered but not an immense complexity either. Palate is balanced and has a hint of a metallic quality. Obviously no fruits, but an interesting flavor. Finish is a hint metallic as well. Has held up well for such an aged wine. My oldest wine to date. 89-90

Incredibly drinkable for a 39 year old wine. Almost amber in color, with notes of apricot and botrytis. Good weight on the palate. The only thing that detracted from the wine was a slight metallic quality. Long finish

Calm and rounded wine. Medium body. Excellent sweetness/acidity balance. Medium strong aroma of fully mature Sauternes . Best drinking alone or with mild cheeses. Not a gorgeous roses this time. Beauty of first snowdrops is better suited here as comparison.

Light brown. Looked like honey in a jar. Scents of oranges and maple syrup. Medium bodied and without any botrytis sweetness, this wine seemed to have shed most of its appeal. However, there was an underlying vinousity, and the wine was alive - just not very charming. Granted, on the aftertaste there was a faint hint of vanilla.
