Tasted vis-a-vis Pegau 2005, this was certainly the weaker wine - not surprisingly. rather light for the vintage, but very true to the terroir, lots of garrigue here - and sweet Grenache. On day 2, certainly on the way down. #Bagnols de Fôrets #PB #Rune

Excellent wine; much improved over the bottle consumed 2 years ago. Brilliant clarity; ruby color; medium body. Good level of acidity to; pairs very well with foods. Soft tannins. Tastes of berries, herbs, anise and flint. Opened quickly; no need to decant.

Opened to powerful alcohol smell; subtle aromas of candy and dried cherries. Initial tastes of red licorice; salty; smooth sea rocks. Let open for 1 hour and the strong alcohol subsided. Tastes then of dried cherries; spice,; minerals and coffee.

CdP tasting dinner. My least favorite of four, this could become unbalanced over time, and has a bit of a tough, hard, rustic style. Long, but somewhat hot. Modern and cough syrupy for my palate, especially compared to VT and Pegau. Has some time in hand, but not sure this will improve. 90pts.

Much different from my last bottle. Classic CdP nose of herbs and some dark fruit. Not overripe at all; some nice fruit on the palate, decent acidity, strong tannins. This doesn't have the class or depth of a top-flight CdP, but for $20 it's a very traditional, rustic bottle. A great weeknight CdP.

Opened with thanksgiving dinner. Based on comment below we gave it four hours. It still was a disappointment, although our first attempt with CDP. Overripe fruit with some alcohol on the nose with a slightly better taste, but we got very little in the way of tannins.

Not quite sure what to make of this wine. The nose was a weird bitter plum and some alcohol; not very pleasant at all. The taste was much better. Medium body, good dark fruit, some pretty big tannins on the finish. Overall a little disjoint. Nice bottle for the $20 I paid for it, but the nose was offputting enough that I wouldn't recommend seeking it out.

Big CDP fan. Plum, spice, earthy and a mix a dark and red fruit. Medium bodied with great mouth feel and good acidity. It really transitions well from initial attack to mid palate to finish. For a 15% alc. wine you really don't taste it. Still has loads of tannins and I think it will be even better in a couple more years as it smooths out more. Opened for Thanksgiving dinner. Our INITIAL reaction that night was not positive. It was bitter and didn't taste like a CDP. We decanted before serving but perhaps we didn't give it enough time or maybe it just needed more time in the bottle. Two days later I had a glass with leftovers and it was terrific. Wish I had another bottle to lay down for another 5 years to see how it progresses.

I underestimated this wine. It was opened and consumed immediately, not allowing much time for aeration (as it was consumed over 90 minutes). Despite this, this medium ruby-colored wine showed moderately intense aromas of red and black cherries, garrigue and assorted spices. Medium-to-full-bodied on the palate, with low-to-medium acidity, medium (albeit slightly dry) tannins and flavors mirroring the nose. Medium, fairly smooth finish. Drink now-12/17.

Some Lesser Known 2005 Chateauneufs (Vin Vino, Palo Alto) : Light ruby (the lightest color of all of the wines). Tobacco and sweet red fruits on the nose. Spice notes come up as it opens. Beautiful complexity, feel, and finish despite some tannin to resolve. This wine dances in a lighter, Burgundian style and is an understated, seductive beauty. A sleeper well worth seeking out, especially for the short to intermediate term.
