Dark cherry red. Great. The nose is one of the most earthern-led profiles I can remember, it's pure soil and lifted red fruit. This translates directly onto the palate, with mulch, those tingly red berries again and piles of leaves. I am drinking autumn and it is lovely. By the glass at HiFi, McMinnvile OR.

Martin Woods Tasting (HiFi Wine Bar - McMinnville OR) : Sit down tasting. An even more spiced start with a good array of red cherry and berry aromas and flavors, followed by some black and blue berry hints. More dense than Hyland, more chewy and meaty in the middle, ending with a broader finish, too. Very good already, but give this a few years to really shine.

Martin Woods 2023 Masterclass (67 Pall Mall) : Darker than the Hyland by a good measure. More purple. Chewy, a tannic structure, quite powerful but also graceful, with high-toned lift like the Hyland but taking from a deeper well. This will develop beautifully I suspect. 700ft, volcanic soils. Excellent.

Martin Woods Winery Masterclass with Evan Martin (67 Pall Mall) : The "Vosne", says Evan: refined, but concentrated. Like the Hyland this is from a high-altitude vineyard with volcanic soil. A touch deeper and purpler. The nose is stony, with some game and red fruit (Evan says there's an element of reduction, which he encourages to add complexity). It's noticeably more tannic than the Hyland, but has plenty of delicious red fruit underneath, and a lovely, juicy finish. Very sophisticated, …
