M. Chapoutier Douro Eleivera

Decanted 60 min. Nice red color, no bricking. Nose: Mostly black currants, floral notes, toasted oak, touch of vanilla. Taste: red currants, tarter cranberry on mid pallet, touch of leather, slightly bitter sandalwood / oak on finish. A bit tighter and more acid than expected from the nose, with some bitterness of the oak that lingers. Was much better with grilled chicken than on its own.

This is very nice, fairly limited to clean primary flavours but very pure black fruit flavours mainly tart black plums with a little liquorice and earth. Wonderful retained acidity and soft defined tannins. 100% Touriga Nacional and just 13% abv.

This Douro red made 100% from Touriga Nacional is an attractive medium bodied wine with a refined bouquet on the nose of liqueur tinged red and dark fruit, blackberry and ripe cherry especially. The palate is attractively savoury but rather up-front in shape and not very long showing fruit and aromas which add complexity and underlying roundness to those from the nose with lively acidity, velvety texture and a little ripe backbone. Decanted ca 30 min. Reticent cherries on the nose. Medium bodied, quite supple, acidic, showing tart dark and red cherries with smooth tannins. Astringent and tart on its own, screaming for food. Tight and tangy style.
