This wine is now at its peak, which is remarkable for Pinotage and a testament to the quality of wine making and the vintage. Lovely nose, rich red fruit, good secondary notes. Body supple, beautiful tannis, perfect acidity, touch of sweetness, an gentle earthy note from ageing, and a little lemon-like bitterness, on the tip of the tounge. Very elegant. Despite being an entirely different grape, reminds me of some more acid-forward right-bank Bordeaux. Should keep another 3 years before …

In the bouquet ripe dark berries and some autumn impressions. On the palate juicy dark berries, some sweet licorice, chocolate, firm acidity and soft tannin. Surprisingly youthful.

Happily revisiting this wine, which I wrote about a couple of years ago. It has mellowed a little more, tannins are more supple now, but it still retains a good structure, lovely acidity, and will continue to develop for another few years. The nose has a new floral perfume, similar to honeysuckle or a philadelphus, and a beautiful gentle aroma of a freshly baked sourdough bread, with a cedarwood note behind it. Restrained and elegant nose of prunes, raisins, black cherries, a lilly flower and leather - after a slight farmyard impression (ripe beetroot?) that appeared on pouring yet disappeared a few seconds later. Body dry and balanced despite the claimed high 14.5% alcohol with firm, perhaps chewy tannins and a gentlest hint of oak vanilla on the palate showing skillful barrel ageing.
