Lemon yellow in color. Lime, ginger and floral nose. I agree with the idea of a combo of SB and Gwertz. Spicy in the mouth with medium + body and a tart medium finish.

pretty honey and flowers nose, reflected in the palate along with citrus and pear. would have liked this more with less flab and less alcohol warmth.

EYE: very pale light straw, with a bit of a green tinge. NOSE: white flowers - jasmine and elderflower (St. Germain Liqueur) with a bit of citrus zest notes in the background (lime). On the nose, reminds me a lot of a flowery Gewürz. PALATE: well-defined acidity and structure / edge of a California Sauv Blanc (without the vegetal edge of NZ SB) upfront...the medium-long finish brings the floral notes back in. OVERALL: Malvasia is new to me, but I …

Deep yellow color with green highlights. Very expressive, perfumed and powerful nose with a huge array of aromas: heady tropical fruit notes, ripe citrus fruits, some pear, a little bit of Gewürztraminer-esque flower shop complexity, Moscatel-ish hints reminiscent of dessert wines and a faint touch Riesling-y petrol. On the palate the wine feels medium-bodied, but it is bursting with flavors of tropical fruits like apricots, mangoes and passion fruits, all supported by racy acidity, some grapey Muscat notes and almost …

Very aromatic with exotic fruits and white flowers. Lemon flower. I like the other guys' association of SB and Gwurz mix. The aromatic intensity of gewurz with some exotic fruits and almost vegetal notes of a SB. Crisp and clean. Good length that lingers on flowers and a gingery finish. A little warm sensation on the finish (13% ?)

After a day vacu-corked in the fridge, wine became richer and fuller in fruit, with distinct orange and tropical fruit notes in the mix, and acquired a fatty-petrol note like an Alsatian (Alsace) wine. Body medium plus, acid medium or lower. Really tasty, patience was a virtue here.

Based on what little I know of White Malvasia, this seems to be an excellent expression of the grape, I was very surprised to learn it was from California. Borrowing from below - Lift and airiness of a Sancerre, flavor intensity of a light Gewurz. Lite and airy, yet white floral-honey-lemon-peach fruity, a pretty wine, steady from nose through palate and finish. Malvasia Bianca. 13% abv. Body light, acid medium. Very good QPR at USD 13. I may buy another.

Interesting grape. Kind of lean, kind of full in the fruit department, acidic. It cuts in different directions. A little hot and, frankly, I'd love to see a white like this under 13%. I agree with the SB/gewurtz hybrid comparison below. Good though I wouldn't seek it out with the strong competition from Riesling, Gewurtz, etc.

Top 100 wine on SF Chron list and well deserved. Grapefruit and spices on the nose and in flavor. The finish goes on for about 10-15 seconds. Kind of like a well made NZ SB or Sancerre with a dash of gerwertz.

Vinoteca Winter Portfolio Tasting 2011 (London) : Lots of pear on the nose - a little honey too. Hmm, palate a bit messy and overblown. Flabby.

Lime mixed with flower-juice & tropical fruits - blossomy, but not flabby, ending long & zesty.
