Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Barrel 23 Willamette Valley

Slow oxed for two hours. Modeate color. Deep red fruit nose with a bit of brighter raspberry on top. Somewhat thin and edgy in mouth. Somewhat simple cherry/sour cherry dominates. Mostly linear profile. Moderate finish. No evidence this bottle is flawed. But not up to DS norms.

Slow oxed for an hour. Moderately big earthy nose with raspberry and some cherry. Relatively smooth but simple initial mouth feel quickly turning to tart cherries. Opening up with air, more aromatic. My first bottle opened of 12 Gold Eagle. Lighter than I expected, but builds slowly in mouth to big flavor. Subtle and delicate, yet big. Interesting contradictions. Interesting wine. No rush to open other bottles.

Classic DS PN. Perfect with bronzino

Very subtle, though that likely had a a lot to do with the fact that it was drunk after an amazingly rich Ramey Pedregal Cab. Initially mute; it seemed that the smell of the glass was more pronounced than any of the wine's aromatics. And the taste impression was devoid of anything more than a noticeable mid-palate, with mellow fruit and mid-level acidity. Another stellar showing. A full, well rounded, and balanced Pinot Noir. Truckloads of fruit up front with earthy substance at the back. 93-94.

Fantastic even on PnP, though slightly better 30 minutes later. Wish I had more!

Powerful wine! Beautiful aromatics of evergreen forest, pomegranate, raspberry, juniper, minerals, earth, and fruit liqueur. Decidedly rich, modern, and ridiculously smooth. Slightly more austere than the 2012 Mark Bradford. Time will tell what this becomes. Stupid good!

Wedding weekend wine tasting! (Willamette Valley) : There's this point in a Domaine Serene tasting where you move from the standard stuff that they sell more broadly to the single vineyards and suddenly the wine that you thought was pretty good is paling in comparison.
