Pretty tired, should have opened this many years ago, but hey! at least it's not pruny/raisiny/stewed fruity! Good color, fairly shy nose showing mostly tertiary notes - dried flowers, very light fruit, dusty leather. Palate isn't bad, just not very interesting.

Now tasting the rest of the bottle opened yesterday and what a difference. Now sweet fruit has evolved in both nose and taste. I'm astonished. Need to up my rating from yesterday and must conclude that this wine needs a lot of air before it opens up.

Slow-ox for a few hours and then a decant of about 1.5 hours. Dark ruby core. Very herbal nose. Very rich with medium level acidity. Tannins are very lively and provide a lengthy finish which hints at tobacco and anise. A very good deal at under $30.

Garnet fading to brown at the rim. Smell: red berries, cherries, hint of oxidation. Still fruit forward but in a multidimensional way, mainly blackcurrant, red currant, red raspberry, holding onto the cedar cigar box, Asian spice, vanilla and carame of its youth. Still has the charisma and complexity but has lost the muscles this flexed when it was just released (considered that a 91 or 92). Opened the same time as the '07-- comparison in that note.

2003 was a hit or miss vintage for Châteauneuf’s. The Milliere is medium to light bodied with a flat finish. Past it’s prime with hints of the earthy spice it possessed a few years back. Still an easy drinker and not a bad find at $30.

Typical Milliere ruby red. The nose does not seem very 2003, it's lush with very little alcohol, just kirsch and leather. On the palate it is strikingly young, with lots of kirsch. There's a little garrique, leather and pepper but it's still very primary, but quite drinkable. Milliere did very well this vintage. Keep a few more years and it could surprise. For now - Excellent.

Garnet red, clear complexion, slight bricking. Initially, strong nose of medicine cabinet and dried leather. After an hour in the decanter the aromatics begin to open with a menage of rose petal, lavender, rubbed sage, molasses, leather, sandalwood, cracked black peppercorn, cherry liqueur, and a presence of ethanol. Birthday party for a friend at a Sicilian restaurant. Ruby colored. Nose of raspberry, tobacco, leather, herbs, some spice. Not particularly concentrated or complex in the mouth. Medium finish. Didn't really pair well with the food. I guess I've become spoiled by the '07 CDPs.

True to the house style, a dialed back more elegant, feminine CdP. Overall, short on interest, firm tannins and bright acidity that are at the forefront early on. Garrigue, raspberry, strawberry and red fruits in the background. Falls apart on the second night with the fruit fading, leaving a tart finish. I do not see this improving any more. My opinion is to drink now and drink in one night with a 1-2 hour decant.

Tried this side-by-side with the regular bottling. In comparison, it seems somewhat more austere, structured and brooding, with a bit more concentration. Both are pretty closed and youthful to my palate.

Another fine showing for this wine! A textbook blend of sweet red fruits, Herbs du Provence, garrigue, and grilled fennel (this and golden beet have been my favorites on the grill this summer). My lone criticism on this night is that this bottle shows a bit of the 2003 booziness and is a bit off balance as a result. If only it were dialed down a notch... Still, I like this bottle more than RP and most others. (93)
