So wonderful and majestic! Decanted and filtered to remove a bit of residue. No hint of being on a downward slope. Beautiful nose of sweet fruit and some spice. Rich red fruits and spices on the tongue. Great mouthfeel and medium to long aftertaste. Enjoy it now because the wait can be over now.

Decanted for 1.5 hrs. Dusty garnet color and medium viscosity. Serious aromatic action here. Ripe red strawberries, raspberries and cassis. Lilac, lavender, tar and all spice notes coming through. On the palate, this is an iron hand in a velvet glove. Confirming red fruits, flowers and all spice. Elegant and complex and a delicious long finish. Dry wine, medium plus acidity, medium plus tannins, medium plus alcohol, medium body. This is nicely peaking now.

Petite note balsamique. Un vin de méditation. Une grande bouteille!

At a fine new NYC restaurant. Shows fresh red/ garnet color, and with 30 minutes in the decanter, begins to display a hint of tar, cherry, leather, tea. But not the amber edge, deep, rich more expanded flavor profile for which one would hope in a fine vintage Barolo. Keep for another couple of years or decant for 2 hours. Won't ever be a top performer.

Great bottle of wine. It likely would have been more highly-rated if I had the time to let it breath, but instead had to pop and pour.

Decanted and drank soon after. Nice cherry notes, but quite tannic. Lots of life in this one. Garnet color, spicy, leathery, tobacco and cherry nose. Long finish.

Very powerful and tannic. Tar, dried cherry, black tea, and woody aromas. Still needs more time - color is still fairly youthful with only a touch of brown at the edges. quite extracted as well for a Barolo.

First impression is nebbiolo fruit. Then the traditional "tar and roses" of barolo on the palate. The complexity of this wine is such that all the "descriptors" frequently used are nowhere near enough to describe it. A delight in the mouth even now while the tannins are still very evident. Very long finish, with even more flavors appearing. this one will have a long life and will only improve with age.

2004 Barolo Progressive (Wine Exchange. Orange, CA) : Decanted several hours before tasting. Warm and aromatic smells with LOTS of oak and vanilla. Spicy and waxy on the palate like an Opus One. Tastes include carrot cake and vanilla. A bit heavy for a barolo in my opinion. Very persistent finish with length of 40+ secs. Strong tannins. Too much oak for me--needs time for the wood to integrate. More muscular than delicate. (My friend rated this a 93+, so …
