Just tight and unforgiving on opening needed 2 hrs to start opening up. Much better 4 hrs later but I would put this away another 3-5 yrs. On day 2 I picked up on the Brett which was slightly there but it definitely affected this wine. Hope my other bottles are spared.

Needs another year or two. Very nice. Fully body. Alcohol can be sensed a touch too much.

While in a good place, still young. Initially some I acid but well integrated tannins and beautiful red fruit. I was eating steak and my wife Salmon and provided the perfect balance for each of us. While some may frown eating steak with Volnay but the grass fed filet I had went wonderful with this wine. I believe you need to let it open for 30 minutes or so and it will blossom nicely. I also would suggest 1 more …

This had a few hours of slow-o, which helped. Wines of this era from Clerget can be rustic and harsh. This started firm, but opened quite nicely. Burly 2005 red fruit is a little more full bodied then you might expect from Volnay, but drinks nicely particularly for the old house style.

decanted for a few hours, I find this typical for this producer, more of a delicate wine, minimal fruit with low acid yet some tannins still remain which is probably typical for this vintage, I'm not yet discounting a better wine down the road for as the tannins recede the delicate fruit could show more prominent. As an aside, this has a most beautiful color in the glass.

completely disappointing. coming from the 2005 vintage, this wine shows none of the balance and harmony that i have come to associate with 2005 red burgs. far too acidic with not enough fruit to accompany the wine. not a good showing....

Blackberry, raspberry, hints of ash and wetted velvet; solid, structured, and good, but with very little finesse

Volnay Tasting (J Emerson Fine Wine) : Fuller bodied with notes of cherry, light cedar, some earth and a hint of medicine on the finish. Acidity has diminished, but is still present.
