I was about to say, best Foscarino w age, I’ve ever had. But then I saw an 08 mag note from 2019. Best 750 unless I find out otherwise. Top notes still shining, comes off 1er cru Burg-like. Day 3. Holding together on day, 3/4?

Didn't really excite me this time. Maybe because it was preceded by something much nicer, and because I've recent had a virus that has made wine taste less pleasant. My guest really enjoyed it and went out to buy some Soave for himself.

J bday dinner at Wimborne. My bottle. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Thin legs. Nose medium intensity, with aromas of lightly bruised yellow apples, ripe cream peach, slight smoked hot stones. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of fatty ripe cream peach, yellow apples, honeyed dried chrysanthemum flowers, smokey hot stones minerality. Big long finish with cream, spice and smoke. Serious Soave. Drinking …

12.5%. Bright mid-gold. Bruised apple, baked peach with saline and smokey notes. Has lovely structure with soft acidity giving it lovely balance. Generous and rich in the mouth. Improved a little over 2-3 days in fridge. A very nice bottle indeed - rather impressive.

Another great showing. There is something about spring that screams Soave for me.

Stunningly beautiful gold honey color. Consistent with prior notes, especially the “lusher Santorini assyrtiko” reference in my note of June 2022

This has developed really nicely since I last had a bottle 2 years ago. Nose still lifted floral, but palate was the main event. There's a kind of lightly smoky surround to a fruity core which started like ripe apples and became more lemon peel on later days. Real body, intensity and persistence. Good on day 1, better on days 2 and 3, not so good on day 4.

Dark golden yellow but no signs of oxidation. Bright citrus and floral notes with a touch of salt. Very enjoyable.

This wine continues to evolve and impress. Attractive medium amber color; lemon custard nose. Gobs of delicious fruit up front, with an increasingly interesting savory mid-palate. A lovely creamy mouthfeel and a substantial finish. This wine is a stunner that keeps getting better. Wow!

Reticent, chalky and flinty with quite polleny white flower top notes. Light, a bit fleshy but supple and smooth with spicy minerality on the moderately long finish. A bit tight, quite firm and detailed with good length but lacks a bit of fruit intensity.

Amazingly attractive mouthfeel. A creamy and substantial white. Once again, it is consistent with my prior notice. This continues to be one of the great values of Italian wines, in my opinion.

Bottle 1332g. Moderately intense aromas of salted lemon, with herbal and earthy notes. Dry, with elevated fresh acidity, light to medium-bodied, 12.5% abv, lemon and barely ripe pineapple, salinity playing against some sweetness of fruit. Fruit not as ripe and smooth and a lot of Soave – lemon but not Meyer. Clean, crisp, saline finish. Real interest.

Pale lemon, with medium intensity developing aromas of lemon, melon, almond, banana. This wine has medium body and acidity with high alcohol and medium intensity, flavors of lemon, melon, banana, and herbs. This wine has a medium finish and is a good wine that should be drunk between now in 2025.

Solid soave with wide availability across UK. medium golden (quite deeper than usual) color. Nose is very, very ripe. Quince, yellow peach, moving to tropical fruit (melon, pineapple). Dry (albeit with a noticeable sweetness, not enough to get into off-dry territory). Medium+ acidity, considerably more body than usual (medium+, considerably "oily"), medium alcol. In the mouth, confirm the tropical fruit notes and a touch of walnuts. Overall a solid soave, but the slightly sweet flavors put me a bit off …

Medium yellow color. Aromas of quince, almonds and minerals. Ripe, beautifully balance fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Nicely detailed and persistent on the palate. At beginning of its peak drinking period and outstanding with the lobster risotto at Luna Restaurant.

I'm just recently introduced and a fan of Soave, but man is this good. Has the weight and character of white burgundy for a fraction of the price. Maybe a hint of white Rhone, but not much. The Foscarino certainly has more oak influence, but nothing to ward off the clean white fans like me.

Introduction to Soave Classico. lovely melons, manure, and citrus. Great balance. In Veneto in N/E Italy; Classico is hilly with lava soil around a river. Often a blend of Garganega & Verdicchio (for acidity). Soave is a town in the Southwest corner.

Really nice white wine here ... Full, rounded, almost oily on the palate with good extract and starchy minerality, nice gold color, and very expressive nose of tropical fruits (pineapple), green apple and sea air. Liked this one a lot; a bottling to get much more of in the future and I think it could age (and perhaps improve a bit) at least 5 more years without a hitch.

Excellent! Belle minéralité et acidité bien balancé. Fruits blancs (poire Bartlet) et légèrement citronné. Bien meilleur après aération, fait ressortir le gras du vin et lui donne de la longueur. On aurait juré un Chablis 1er cru. RQP ****

Clear, pale yellow gold. The nose is predominantly almond and a hint of earthiness. On the palate, there is a light to moderate acidiity with a long duration. The flavors are almond, lemon, and a very subtle ginger flavor. The earthiness on the nose is not apparent on the palate.

This has gained further definition and brings together a fragrant fleshniness with floral complexity and well integrated hints of second use oak. The oak is adding fat to this, with a real luscious texture on the mid palate. Lovely acidity and signature bitter almond finish. Delicious.

A bit lighted than the 2012 with some white and stone fruits built around a rather herbaceous core and some nuttiness on the finish. The neutral oak adds a real creaminess to the texture, but there is plenty of refreshment on the finish with some nettles and apricots. Well suited to lighter pork or poultry dishes.

Muted nose, not giving away much at all during the night. Slight butter, yellow apples, seeds and a touch of peach. A dry, medium acidity, medium body, medium(-) intensity and a medium finish. Except for the rather charming label, this is not giving me much pleasure. Uninspiring nose and a rather short and thin palate.

The wine is clear with a medium intensity, lemon color. Youthful nose with a medium aroma intensity. Aromas of ripe tropical fruit, banana, fudge and butter. The wine is dry on the palate with a medium acidity and medium body. Medium intensity with flavors of tropical fruit, yellow plums and grass. The finish is medium(-) and a bit watery. Needs time to unfold properly but there is some interesting richness to the modest fruit.

Pretty insipid. Inoffensive, "nice", but with only the faintest hint of what garganega can become. Like most Soave, this has good acidity, freshness blah blah blah ... But in the end lacks any character, any purpose, anything of interest. For just a few £ more, buy Pieropan's La Rocca, which is in a different league, and see just how good and interesting garganega can be.
