Stored in a wine fridge most of its life, but regular fridge for the last couple of years (space…never enough). Sealed with what seems to be a high quality synthetic cork? Or an ultra smooth regular cork. Popped and poured into a Grassl Liberte. Crystal clear and pure yellow, neither green nor white nor amber. The aromas waft leisurely from the glass, first honey and then some baked apple, pastry dough, and toasted nuts. The palate is surprising for a …

This is awesome. Notes from day 2. The nose at first reminds me of sherry but as I inhale deeper I get yellow & green apples with hints of citrus, butter and herbs. The palate has a kick of spice up front then full midpalate of apple, pear, citrus, butter and mild oak followed by light butterscotch and a bit of Jura-like oxidation on the moderately long finish. Light acidity, fairly strong mineral notes and a hint of tannins all …

opened two days previously. I am struck by the bright apple acidity with some funk. Not your buttery oaky cali chardonnay. I appreciate the Jura comments for the funk, but I don't get any oxidized notes. Fantastic, but proceed with caution.

Reminds of Jura chardonnays. Ripe apples and fruits, buttery.

Barely recognisable as Chardonnay. Reminded me of vin jaune from Jura. Not unpleasant but not one of my favourite Scholium wines either.

This was a rather puzzling bottle. I expected things to be one way, and they were largely another. Popped and poured. The color on the pour was a hazy, straw colored wine. Nose of grass and lemon. The taste was more of a tart lime bar at first, VERY sharp acidity on the opening, and the finish was rather abrupt with not a whole lot there. When this wine was allowed to sit and warm, the taste took on more …

A really interesting wine that expands nicely over 3 hours. Long finish that keeps me pleasantly puzzled.

Toasty, butterscotch aromas. There's a little of the volatility that appears on many of the Scholium wines. Powerful and dense with huge intensity if flavour. Although it's packed with layers of toffee popcorn, pineapple and creamy vanilla it's still fresh, youthful and well structured. Huge length on the palate and into the finish. A bit of spice towards the end of the glass. It's a big powerful wine but it's beautiful and all in the right place.

Abe Schoener presents the Scholium Project (The Sampler, South Kensington, London) : Loaded with coconut sweetness, big and a bit sickly, but this grew on me; prickly and acidic and had presence

Pale yellow wine, not recognizable as a Chardonnay, a feature shared by many other Scholium wines, where the grape is a complete mystery. Very noticeable acidity and alcohol with hints of dried pineapple. On occasion, Scholium does make an intriguing wine, but most of the wines are less than mediocre and even awful.

The best Naucratis I have had, and my expeience with it goes back to the 2005. This wine had has a wonderfull melange of floral and fruit notes. It is a verdelho that has a floral nose and flavors reminiscent of sauvignon blanc - tropical fruit of guava and pineapple, but with a tart apple component. There is acidity as is normal in Abe Schoener's style, with a 14%+ ABV. There is also a salty mineral component. I drank this …
