A complex nose, there are profound aromatics of grassiness, ripe white fruits, earthy and some flint. Palate echoed the nose with intensity and extension. Good balance. Medium-bodied structure. Very long and fresh finish.

A powerful and deep wine I wonder if tasting this by itself would have served it better than the complex and flavorful dishes that went with it, I was left with the impression that it has incredible complexity though delineating was difficult, lots of waxiness from the oak and some Semillon I’m assuming, candy cane was coming out along with elevated alcohol and ripeness, the citrus was less grapefruit and more mandarin orange, a wild wine that I feel privileged …

Fresh, bright, vivacious, and with a strong shot of honeysuckle and crushed stone, the green apple, lemon peel, grapefruit pear and lemon wax were out in full force. Rich, concentrated and lush, with lots of energy, this is drinking just great today.

This is just a unique and complex wine with a great musky, floral character. Quite rich and salty with deep flavors of peach, pear and lychee and a fine, honeyed quality with air. Excellent acidity underneath provides a nice lift and the finish is ultra-complex with notes of sweet honey and white rock minerals. Yum and a perfect interplay today between its youthful vibrancy and secondary flavor development. I don't like HBB too old...

Splendid HBB but still very young. Good to start, better after a couple of hours. Really intriguing aroma of pear, chamomile, tangerine, lemon, wax. Nice mouth feel, downright thick for white Bordeaux. Slightly acid deficient so lacking definition and cut. It’s development should be interesting but my instinct is that this will not be a very long lived version of Haut-Brion Blanc.

An almost perfect wine which was so good that we sadly did not have much time to let it evolve further in the glass. This is the epitome of understatement in wine (like Lafite) were nothing is loud, neither on the nose nor on the palate are the aromas on your face. Oh My Ears and Whiskers... Our annual 2005 Chateau Haut-Brion Blanc experience. We intend to sip one bottle a year for the next 12 years :-) This is the reason God created Sauvignon Blanc and introduced her to Semillion for the near perfect Romeo & Juliet pairing. I have had the 2004 previously several yrs ago and this was nothing compared to the 2004. This time decanted about 1-2 hours. I don't know if this was in a dumb phase but I don't think so. We were at a Phillipe Delmas hosted Haut Brion dinner in Toronto many yrs ago and he told me it did not matter at what age you drink the Blanc and in his opinion there was no advantage to waiting. A small impromptu dinner - Bordeaux and Champagne (Washington D.C.) : Classic HB blanc nose of rich yet subtle yellow fruits, lemon, dry lemon rind, lanoline, anise, biscotti and mineral. Quite oily, rich and dense but the strong presence of mineral keeps the wine’s precision in check. Lovely long finish. It may benefit from a couple hours of decanting. Lovely but the current price makes this a poor QPR, not that people who can afford this would care a lot.

I was very impressed with this wine, but it took 30 minutes for the flavors to emerge. A brooding Haut Brion, with less immediate power than the 2004, but more substance.
