Outstanding. I've cellared since purchase and such a beautiful PN. It's all there, depth, balance and finish.

A bit jammy, but reasonably balanced new world PN. Lacks a little bit freshness, and is probably past its prime.

It doesn't happen offen to stumble upon a 10 year old New Zealand pinot noir. The sommelier told me he had sensed this was going to age beautifully and so he had bought a sizeable lot. And boy was he right! Totally gorgeous wine, not the fruit bomb younger NZ pinots usually have. But a dark breeding, layered pinot that was completely satisfying.

Kind of an awkward wine. Past peak I think. Fruit is lush, dark, soft, with black coffee and some acid. But out of balance, as the structure is missing.

Deep crimson. Dark cherry spice and earth. Mouth filling but still light on it's feet. Good persistence of flavour. Great structure and depth of grainy tannin. This should continue to develop well for a few more years yet.

Somewhat disjointed, with dark coffee, black fruit, and a bitter acidic finish. Powerful and deep. A little too hot, lacks finesse. A big pinot noir.

Perfect pinot nose for me with ripe dark berries but soft not thick/syrupy. Good acid on the finish with a bit of gentle smokiness throughout.

Let breathe 30-45 min. & drank over course of 3.5 hrs. Notes of red berries (notably raspberry & strawberry), sweet spices, & hints of earth, herb, fresh tobacco leaf, carob & mineral. Picked up a note that resembles cheesecake in the mid-palate. Complex, medium-bodied w/sweet integrated tannins, medium acidity, & moderately dry medium finish. Elegant & smooth & in a good place right now.Very nice indeed.

T-n-P (twist and pour) for OTBN. Bang out of the bottle with sexy perfumed red berries dusted in brown spices and resting on loamy earth. Long and broad in the mouth. Really a fine mélange of classic Pinot components, drinking perfectly right now.

Rich, Round and mellow. More Central California than New Zealand in style. Great earthiness, I was surprised how smooth it was.

Color is clear, medium + intensity and ruby (yes, its a dark pinot). Nose is clean, medium + and developed with secondary notes of earth and forest floor equalling the fruit . Palate is dry, with medium acid, alc. is not noticeable. Body is medium to medium +), tannins are medium + as well and show some stalky notes. Flavor is medium + (this is a bunch of medium + all in a row). Length is medium, and the tannins …

This has turned into something really special after a year in the cellar. I think I now know the answer to the rhetorical question I posed in a TN about 4 months ago: this is a remarkably fine PN, which has gained complexity and has at least 3-4 years to go, very possibly with some high points of pinot-sensuality along the way. Tonight the fresh but multi-layered aroma (cherries, soy, balasamic and green herbs) is as stunning after 2 hours …

No detailed notes. Considerably more rich and alluring with 30-45 minutes of air.

Oops. I think I prefered this when it was young and dumb and full of... It is still - technically- a stunner: fine pinot aroma somewhere between morello and bing; tannic, structured palate with strong dried fig taste and a dry, tannic acid-dominated afterburn -sorry- finish. But the package is far too "burgundian" and "difficult" for this simple boy's taste. Give me the gorgeous cherry orgy instead! What I really need is Robert Parker sitting by my elbow and explaining …

Still as dark, gutsy and earthy as ever. With a hard tannic backbone of course.

Touch vegetal, dark cherry and assertive tannin. A bit chocolate with the front end of the nose. Just opened.

14% ABV. Translucent, slightly hazy dark garnet in the glass. Mineral driven nose of granite, iron, and earth with some background cherry/mulberry fruit. Tangy attack of zippy cherry. Medium-full bodied with a fairly intense mineral sensation on the palate as well, but the acidity builds and shortens the finish. I'll try the leftovers tomorrow, but this came across to me as just too acidic. Day 2, this had a metallic note on the nose, but was pretty much unchanged. Didn't …

On the second bottle more open and expressive. A darker pinot here in terms of its fruit with a nice mixture of new world fruit and earthy note. Tanninic on the back, could go for a while yet.

Impromptu Wine Gathering (Lake Elmo) : No detailed notes. Among the more "New World" pinots on the table, but not in a heavy or overdone way. More obvious fruit and a slightly fuller palate than all of the Burgs, save the '05 Pommard. Fell off the cliff Day 2 - tired and flat.

Dark cherry to the wine. Bright, soft, maybe just a touch of refermentation. Or maybe that is just the acid showing through on the wine. Also just opened, so we will see where it goes!

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (Waterford Wine Co., Milwaukee) : back to cherry fruit. although it strays to raspberry. a wild nature to the fruit. a depth in the nose and a waxy suggest. a green complexity to the nose that is really carried quite nicely on the palate.

2006 Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir- Cherries with a hint of raspberry on the nose. Nice ripe red fruits on the palate with some red berries. There is a hint of funk that wants to expose itself but is overwhelmed by the fruit. The finish is short and tannic. 88Pts.

Rich, inviting pinot aroma on the sweet dark cherry side. Huge tannic dark cherry palate, possibly in a difficult stage of losing its youthful fruit? Little complexity or depth at this stage, tongue-puckering tannins. Good long finish. This probably has a great mid-term future, will leave my remaining bottles for a year to see how it develops. 89P+
