Complex smell: black cherry, Kirsch liquor, liquorice, tar, eucalyptus. Medium bodied, powerful polished tannins. Tangy fruit finish, crisp. Excellent length.

Light red color. Typical Nebbiolo aromas, with tar, roses, forest floor and herbs. Light weighted and elegant with nice structure. Lacks some concentration.

Still way too much tannins. At least 5 more years to wait.

Yes there are cherries, liqeur and earth here. A little liquorice. Much better than last time, integrated and mellowed out. A real treat. Easy window, but close to peak.

Closed nose, just a hint of black cherry and sweet flowers, tantalising as the smell is so lovely. Iron and meat in the mouth. Not a tough wine but dark and brooding. High acid and tannin of course. Long sweet fruited finish.

This was a nice wine. Good dose of acid, fruit and finegrained tannin. 1st day had a weird hit of fish (not the superfresh kind), gone day two. Shortish finish, and didnt stand a chance against the produttori pora '13. Future will tell. Drink or hold, could probably last another five without risk.

We found a dominant aroma of moldy wood - like the inside of an empty, wet, funky barrel. This covered faint notes of cherry back there. But you would never had guessed this to be a nebbiolo. So, I a marked this "flawed" which implies a bad bottle, but I suspect this was a bad tonneau. Perhaps this bottle came from the bottom or was fill wine held in a bad barrique? I have just never seen a flawed bottle …

Cherry, tobacco, and earthy flavors. Well made, very cohesive.

Very light colour. Took a while to show anything, not a lot of fruit, but some plum and spice, a bit of something medicinal too. Medium bodied, tannins present but aren't too harsh. More plum in the mouth, clean mineral chalky finish. Very well balanced and refreshing and quite polished. Very good.

Drank over two days. poured half out then corked. I think the first day was too tight and maybe at the 2 hour mark some of the expectations were being met. But second day was much better right away, but I still wanted to see more in it

Not what others have experienced. For me it was rather non descript and flat with no expression.

Needs at least 1 hour to open. Immediately smokey, giving way to some liquorice, some rose, dark fruit, and a bit of truffle. The tannins are massive, but fine. Well balanced. Not much of a finish. Had with oven roasted bronzino and then lupulus organic cow cheese (triple beer washed).

Somewhat restrained bouquet for Asili, though quite pure. Balanced, true to place, and smooth. Tasted immediately after the same vintage Vallegrande, which showed every bit as nuanced and interesting. This can age for a decade, give or take a year or two.

Dinner at Andrew's place : Mike introduced this "interest wine" with classic Barbaresco perfumes of raspberries, cherries and other red fruit, roses, dry earth and a touch of tar. In the mouth, that red fruit and some dry brushwood. Quite approachable now but it probably would cellar. Fairly traditional seeming, no oak in evidence. Youthful, straightforward and a little rustic. An enjoyable wine but comprehensively outclassed by the Rinaldi, of course.

Very light in color almost strawberry in color. The nose reminds me of raspberry and cotton candy. Very light on the palate, crisp and refreshing. Red cherry fruits and a bit of acidity no oak or tannin at all. Short o moderate finish. Very crisp and easy to drink. Love this style.

Piedmont Trip, Day 4- Albino Rocca, Ca del Baio, Bruno Rocca (Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy) : Nose: The tones of spices, violets, raspberries, red cherries, licorice, leather, and some earth just seem to waft out of the glass and create this lovely perfumed boquet. It is well balanced, but even though it is perfumed, there is a shyness to it right now. Taste: Medium/full bodied with high acidity and high tannins. The tannins are silky and refined with the feel having …
