Medium golden colour. Weird, sour, leathery nose. More appealing on the palate: Apricot, ripe citrus, orange marmalade, light honey, and first signs of bottle age, with good acidity, an oily texture, and very good length of the lightly ethereal finish. Good body and concentration. Benefited from aeration. We did not have any cheese at hand, but I suspect that the wine would pair well with hard cheeses. Drink now.

Full yellow. Fusel and secondary notes as well as a tropical scent. Glorious glycerine feel. Incredible complexity-just off dry papaya, herbs, and smokiness with strong acidity to balance everything. Dynamite wine with superlative verve and freshness despite the aged Riesling notes. More soil comes to the fore the second night. Pretty amazing stuff.

Ripe and tropical, with aromas of guava, candied mango, pineapple, with ginger, honey, hay, mountain stream. This is rich and concentrated, with moderate acidity - I would prefer more raciness, but this wine is still balanced, even though it falls on the fatter side. But the fruit (pineapple, guava, orange marmalade) is so delicious, and it's laced with ginger snaps, honeycomb, spiced tea, underlying chalky minerals. Really delicious stuff. Glad I popped it when I did, as I'm not sure …

Light tulip color. Mostly herbs and some citrus. Enveloping, glycerine feel that gives the false impression of some sweetness. Bitter citrus, herb, and earth with outstanding acid structure and real power. Fiery, distilled spirit finish. Hardly any secondary development. I likely would have mistaken it for Gruner Veltliner if tasted blind. Exceptional bottle in great shape.

Small glass, brief note. while the 2007 was so much fun, this was reductive to start and still even slightly reductive a few hours later. Lots here, with good weight, but an odd wine that is tough to appreciate.

GMs - Kevin Farewell @ GC : Sweet smelling - honey, apricot, orange ring, slate and smoke. The palate however feels much drier, with only the barest residual sugar that I can detect and some ripeness from the fruit contributing to the flavour profile. Well balanced acidity. A little bit more depth and this would be superb. Drinking well now.

Rich tropical fruit and apricot on the nose. Pure ripe fruits with nice minerality on the palate. Great balance. 93 points

Superlatives deserved. Deep golden color that leads to the deep and developing complex nose. No petrol. Depth of halbtroken body shows minerals, stone, exceptionally smooth subtle stone fruits and citrus hints. Slow to open, overall it was an elegant WOW wine appreciated by all. Served with bacon wrapped monkfish, ramps and forbidden rice. Made the dinner.

This has gotten more streamlined, polished and precise in the last couple of years, and it really is a fantastic wine. Layers of ripe stone fruit and citrus, florality and vivid stony minerality all coming together seamlessly on the nose and palate, there's tremendous power and intensity on the palate, yet great balance and focus with bright acids and remarkable length.

Steinertals at Seasonal (Seasonal, NYC) : Darker in colour than the '06 Alzinger with a bright gold hue; powerful, spicy and packed with ripe golden orchard fruits yet remarkably streamlined and precise for the vintage.

Nice wine - although not as crisp as anticipated.

Straw yellow. Lots of yellow fruit on the nose, notes of gummi bears, peaches, and some slight floral notes. On the palate, this is thick and palate-coating, with again some stone fruit notes as well. A bit less than fresh, this doesn't have the sharp acidity that I was looking for. Alternately, this is a very big and concentrated palate. A medium-length finish, tinged with cardamom, licorice, and floral honey. On the second day, after a night in the fridge …

The first whiff of this after opening is like angels falling down from heaven; pungent peach, lime and a touch of petrol. The palate is rich and full with a touch of residual sweetness, the mid is complex and evolving with a finish that goes on and on. Needs food. This might be one of my desert island wines. Or desert island Rieslings anyway!

nose: extremely mineral driven nose with tones of wet rocks, lemon peels, tropical citrus tones and some white peaches. Great depth and it took a little bit to open up, but was very expressive when it did open up taste: great medium feel with medium+ acidity and lovely tones of minerals, wet rocks, tropical citrus', and a good bit of white peaches and some white florals as well. There is some real class to the feel as well with very …

This wine just sings to me... A full, developed nose of stone fruit and meyer lemon, honey and a hint of petrol; a palate of ripe luscious fruit that reflects the nose, plus just a touch of lime and the merest hint of residual sugar, with perfect acidity. This is a spectacular food wine - any kind of fleshy fish, shellfish - and I am so glad I have four more bottles! It will be interesting to see where this …

Formal notes not taken, but this was again marked by tropical fruits on the nose, with a fairly rich midpalate. Very little minerality. Doesn't live up to the IWC ratings, and was outclassed by a Rivers Marie Chardonnay that was also opened.

Flowers, minty green spices, and lemon chiffon loft above lower notes of banana, papaya, apricot, and background mineral, saline, white pepper. I sense some alcohol on the nose. Palate has a creamy entry; seems very lazy until right at the finish, there is an increase in intensity and liveliness. Long finish with this sudden focus and presicion of flavors that violentley zap into place. Like a great golf shot that runs low to the ground and suddenly lifts upward at …
