With grip and power across the palate. Just opened. Good structure and density to match the full fruit character on the palate.

Poured from open bottle at the winery in Avignon. Very very deep magenta color. Blueberry, raspberry, nutmeg, and subtle thyme. Smooth, dry palate, with satiny acidity. Very firm tannins on the longish finish. This is really too youthful to judge right now. My score is just a placeholder. It’s very primary today, but the raw materials are there.

Amazing considering the age. Light bricking on the edge, but deep and rich

Started out a little funky, but as it opened up over 2 hrs it was an excellent drink. Not as full or rich as some CDP, but still flavorful. Although my bottle was not tired. I suspect that it is time to drink 'em if you got 'em.

Much better than I expected. After some initial funk on the nose that blew off I discovered a fresh and vibrant wine with plenty of red fruit, spices and licorice. Focused, linear on the palate - perhaps a testimony to the vintage. Nothing sticks out, good balance, delicious wine. Pleasant surprise.

A lean, but well balanced wine, probably at its peak, much garrigue, sweet berries, still some tannins, but most of all, this is a quite light wine for the appellation, lacking some of the depth and concentration that you could well expect. Like a very good cotes-du-rhone, really

Old Châteauneuf-du-Papes tasted with Harry Karis (750 Wines, St. Helena, California) : Bricking light medium orange red color with 20 millimeter clear meniscus; lovely, roasted coffee, walnut, cumin, autumnal nose; lovely, mature, light coffee, autumnal, cumin, dried orange, ginger and walnut cake palate with sweet, firm tannins; long finish (the label is missing; Harry Karis received it from the Château)

A bit fruity, good nose. Mellows out as evening goes on. Blackberry. Good for duck.

This started out a bit lean, but opened and deepened in the glass to reveal ripe raspberry, garrigue, black pepper and licorice. It does maintain elegance over rusticity and is quite enjoyable.

Dinner @ Barndiva. Medium-bodied, spicy nose. Tight on entry. Lots of earth and tannin, some cherry. I'd say this can wait for a few years. Nice enough bottle of wine but I don't think it has a high potential.

Mid ruby. Muted nose. Tight, with good fruit smothered by tannin. Good length. Meaty and powerful. Like most 2001s it needs time, but the quality still shows through. dg
