Coravin'd a glass of this to go with some braised shortribs, and RiverRat's note is on the money. Double decanted off the sediment. Big black and opaque, just like I remember it. Nose is big extracted and dense purple and black fruit bordering on stewed. To think this used to be in my wheelhouse. It's fun to check out once in a while and has been nearly 6 years since my last bottle. Decanted two hours. Inky purple in the glass, coating the sides of the glass purple like an Aussie Shiraz. Black fruits on the nose, with some heat. Blackberries and dark fruits on the palate, with chocolate, mocha, earth and chewy tannins. Not much complexity, but plush and built to last.

This wine is massive and concentrated. Dried cherries, dried blueberry, prune and licorice characteristics on the palate. Full throttle Petite with tanins that will support decades of aging.

Pure black in the glass with a deep dark purple rim. Nose of black currants, blueberry pie, a little forest floor funk/menthol that blew off by day 2 and bloody red meat. Big and chalky up front, blackberry fruit fading off to chalky lingering tannins. Just can't get over the color. Inky, inky black. Still has years to go to resolve the tannins. hopefully the fruit holds up over that time. Enjoyable now but can wait.

This is the third time tasting this wine. The nose is full of vanilla, floral fruit. The middle is very earthy and the fruit is going away from the first tastings.

Big, dense and well balanced. This is the poster child for inky wine. Black with a near black rim. Rich and fruity with loads of blueberry and chewy tannins that hang around for the ride. Huge finish. Drank over 3 days. Continued to evolve Has the legs to age for many years. Glad I stocked up when K&L had it on sale.

OC Fratello Offline--Stainless Chards And Petite Sirahs (Fratello's Laguna Niguel) : Smooth, polished and rich. Chocolate, chalk and syrupy/dense. I starred this wine as I found it to be pretty good and showing in the top end of the wines in the flight.

SKS Wine Club: Solid petite syrah for the price point, noise had a cedar, floral feel (lavender), fruit forward style with dominance on the dark red fruits with hints of blueberry, midpalate has some earthiness or wood notes, finish has good legs but could use some time to develop, texture was chewy and jammy in nature, very enjoyable bottle, has good balance to age with time but drinking well now, low 90s.

A tremendous bottle of wine. Huge black fruit bursts from the glass, tempered with enough toasted spice to keep it interesting. The flavor is huge, again leading with black cherry and blackberry, maybe some blueberry and currant, too. Grippy tannins, but they're smooth and not harsh. A very long finish. Another Dave Phinney success!
