Denarius Denarius

Opened at Whale. P&P and enjoyed. Served blind, but coming quite fresh off the '18 and '20 I managed to get Denarius. This feels quite Burgundian, but the colour is darker, the fruit profile is more tropical and exotic and the palate does go down like a very smooth and clean Bordeaux. Continue to have fun with Liber Pater and Denarius and am looking forward to exploring further. Thanks to MSW for sharing and onto the next!

BYO lunch Loca (Arnhem, NL) : Second time I had this (vintage) and as underwhelmed as I was last time (even without taking into account the price).

Made from Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from really old vines. Lovely wine, but I can't get to Bordeaux on this (although this is claimed to be 'classical Bordeaux'). This had both dark fruit as well as strawberry, some spice and light cacao notes, with good intensity but was lighter (both in intensity and color) than I would expect from young Bordeaux. The price for this is crazy.

Tasted alongside a few Liber Pater. The wine was less vibrant and refined. The nose and palate both resembled some wildness, forest and herbs.

Pop n poured into a decanter and served right away. This wine obviously needs several hours of aeration! Expanding and broadening over a few hours.

Smaak / Afdronk: Mondvullend, krachtige en vlezige wijn, sappig, loepzuiver.
