Fleur de Clinet, Pomerol

Holding up nicely. I'm always surprised at how short drinking windows are for wines such as this. I prefer mature.

Got to this one too late. High acid, low fruit. Upside: tannins are quite smooth. Best with fatty food. Standard charcuterie no bueno. Fatty sliced ham went well. Flavors did not over power wine. Foie grad would be ideal. I suspect a mild pate would work well. Bread and butter good. Lots of butter makes this wine sing. Warning: don’t drink without food and drink it now. On downward slide.

Tried after decanting for 30 minutes, but this needs a good 2-3 hours to show its stuff. Dark garnet in the glass. Characteristic nose of red currants, sweet black cherry, and pencil lead. Surprisingly fruit forward on the palate, with sweet red fruits dominant. Medium weight. Tanins present, leaving a somewhat bitter finish. One dimensional, but perhaps to be expected with a baby Clinet.

From a 375ml, splash decanted and started to drink about 45 mins later. Initially this hadn't settled down - a bit raw and acidic with little fruit. But an hour later it had got its act together: nice dark fruits on the nose, and also on the palate along with some pencil lead and old leather. Deep and dark with slightly ruby around the rim. The nose too has deep and dark elements, some blackberry and some prune characteristics. The wine is palate coating and has a medium to long finish. It seems to be lacking some complexity with few tertiary notes appearing at this time. Not sure if it will improve from here.

Dark ruby with a reflective edge. The nose is attractive with perfumed ripe berries, smoke and a hint of citrus. The palate is very light on the attack, gets bolder on the mid-palate, then glides effortlessly through the finish. Flavors of dark cherry, roasted orange peel, banana, and smoked oak. Finishes on a high note. Still young and fleshy at the moment. Drink now with 20 minutes decanting until 2028.

Decanted for 1.5 hours. Muted nose with dark cherry, ash and cedar. Palate is smooth, balanced and pleasant, but no wow factor.

Started tasting Clinet / Fleur de Clinet again after visiting their Château last month. This Fleur de Clinet 2008 is ( IMO ) currently at its peak, enjoy it now !!!!

Similar to our notes of 11/30/2012 except that strawberry flavor has evolved to a deep dark black raspberry, with more leather than tobacco on the mid-palate. No trace of vanilla that we tasted previously. Overall this bottle is darker, more brooding than before; not sure if it’s age or bottle variation. Either way this bottle is drinking nicely now with potential to age gracefully for a few more years.

Sunday Lunch (Paul's house) : Smokey, cedar, Classic claret, elegant, feminine. Very well balanced wine should age gracefully but is drinking great now.

Fantastic - rich, succulent Pomerol full of black and brown flavors - but if drinking now it needs 3+ hours of air. I decanted for ~1 hour and the first glass was miserable. The third glass was gorgeous.

Dark color with bordeauax style nose. on palates, quite spicy with strong tannins. some cherry note with oaky, bitterness. It appears a full body wine with a good finish and strong tannins. Seems too young and could last for years..

Not a big Bordeaux with tremendous depth and structure that will go the distance, but it is smooth and enjoyable now and should continue so over the next 2 to 3 years. Some strawberry fruit which shows more on the finish, a mild mid-palate of tobacco and vanilla and a soft tannic finish. One would not be faulted to finish their inventory now but may find this wine to be more interesting in a couple of years.

Needs more time. At first it was flabby and all fruit. After 2 hours the wine began to take on body and open more expressively into a better balanced wine. The tannins are ripe and clenching at this age, another 2-3 years should mellow this out nicely.
