No real changes from my last bottle a few years ago (maybe a slightly more open bouquet). Very light gold. Nose shows off peach aromas along with passionfruit and guava. Palate is lovely, nice balance of sweetness and acidity with a very nice mouthfeel. Pineapple, peach. Didn't taste on night 2, but no real changes on night 3, either.

Been a while since I opened a bottle of this, and this is starting to develop nicely. It's no longer the really primary, fruit-forward and sulfurous beast it was several years ago. The fruit's still very vibrant and youthful, but it's now showing a lot more of that smoky and savoury development around the fruit. As usual, there's remarkable depth and impeccable balance, and everything here suggests there is a lot more time ahead.

In a really good spot now. Fresher than I remembered it to be, well balanced between sugar and acid, not cloying, peach, some unripe pineapple, pear, some petrol, decently long finish. Really lovely, and an absolute bargain for this quality.

Cork was fairly wet but removed in one piece with a Durand. Double decanted for about three hours, drunk half the bottle, then polished off the second half two days later. Beautifully expressive bottle. Ripe pear, stewed peaches, and apricot compote lead the nose, wrapped in a gentle honeyed sweetness. The palate shows classic slatey Mosel minerality and sufficient acidity to keep the wine lifted. Wonderful depth with notes of kiwi and peaches. This 2001 from the exceptional 2001 vintage was showing great at 24 years old. 94 points.

Wino Weekend; 9/26/2025-9/28/2025 (South Haven, MI) : Ap 25765112002. Deep mature color. Abundant ripe stone fruit with pear, honey and subtle petrol undertones. The palate follows the bouquet. Rich and balanced, this is in a beautiful spot right now.

Fantastic nose of bee wax, some petrol, honey, melon. Very complex. Superb balance between acidity and sweetness on the palate. Concentrated, but not heavy. In amazingly good shape after 28 years. Fascinating!

Restorative Riesling in SW11 (Chez RZ) : A better bottle than one sampled last December. Here the nose opens out with some quince past, elderflower and a touch of freshly ripped Elastoplast. With air notes of rosehip sorbet, tangerine, Biscoff crumb and crystalised ginger emerge. Palate has more quince with some Bakewell almond paste notes in the margins. Jeremy's German Riesling Dinner #2 - Table 1 (The Laundry, Brixton, London) : Chamomile and glacé grapefruit nose. Tarte Tatin apple char with air. Palate just mesmerising and poised. Spiced pear on entry, the mid palate is about the orchard fruit; just à point. Quince jelly on the finish. Chapeau.

12th of 18, pnp, perfect level but stuck pulled through and crumbly cork, otherwise again excellent and approaching yardstick quality but now losing spritz and mature, some upside yet, 12+ years. VF (18.5).....Prum wines seemingly live for ever!

Wines with jerk chicken (Chicago, IL) : #19-02. This is surely one of the best mass-market bottlings from the estate ever made. It's really got everything going for it -- minerality, complexity, aromatics... Arguably still very young, especially knowing which cellar this bottle came from. What can I say? Pretty classic Mosel Auslese from Prum in a good vintage. Fully mature, I might say just showing some older bones. Loads of peach, honey, citrus- buffered by hints of minerality and wet rock. Still lively- med acidity that skirts in the background. It will last, but it's also time for drinking.

John’s Birthday Celebration (Noble Rot Restaurant, Wellington, New Zealand) : Beautiful Auslese in an excellent stage of maturity. Supple, tingly acids, sweet barley sugar notes, wet stone, and a clean and an off-dry finish keep this balanced and poised. There is still a bit if SO2 on the nose.

Patio Season Begins (All Saints, Mpls, MN) : Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. Peach, fusil, stone fruit, tropical notes, expansive, great acidity, wet stones, oily texture, long and layered. Been drinking these for a long time now, and they just keep getting better. Dang good stuff.

Dinner at D Cuisine (Chicago, IL) : Great stuff. Easily the wine of the night; still showing quite youthful in terms of the brightness of the fruit, but also some mellowing in terms of the interplay between the acidity and sweetness. Incredibly dense palate profile, with lots of great mineral chew, the way a proper bottle of riesling ought to have. For Sonnenuhr, this has yet to develop the blue cheese/creamy notes though.

CWM Holiday Dinner & Grab Bag (Adelle's) : Looking at VM's note I wonder if we tasted the same wine. AP 19 02. While this didn't have the freshness of the bottle I tasted a couple of months ago (AP 28 02), I did not find this flat. Deep color with notes of slate, peach and ripe pear. Rich texture with an abundance of fruit on the palate- pear, stone fruit and melon- with a lingering finish. Well-balanced. (J&P)

Opened by Blue Oval. 4th time I have had this wine. This was disappointing to me which is an outlier for German Riselings from 2001 (especially a Prum). Medium yellow color. Some petrol on the nose. Lighter fruit profile with rather mild acidity which left a flatter impression. I've never scored this wine lower than 94 before. 87 points.

Hint of petrol on opening but that fades quickly leaving a beautifully ethereal nose. Flower petals and beeswax complicate sweet pear. The sugar is just about completely integrated now though there is still plenty of richness on the palate yet. The nose really sells this where the palate feels less refined. Terrific wine that is taking to its age quite nicely.

A Wilburs buy from years ago. Color. Medium yellow wa touch of green. Nose. Green apples, limes, white flowers, lychee, medium alcohol. Very youthful. Palate. Very bright acidity. Very enjoyable mouth feel. Lots of honey and rich baked citrus fruits. This wine has the strength to go for many more years. Maybe another 15 years?

A more fresh fruit profile of lemon zest, oranges, gooseberry and melon. Add-ons of citrus fruit. Spicy and herbal components of maple leaves. Mineral complexity of cold stones. The palate shows an element of carbonation which along with the clear acidity adds to the freshness and build a structure that feels light.

AP 28 02. Deep yellow color. Lovely bouquet of petrol, ripe peach and stone. There's a delicate floral undertone. Adds a ripe apple note with air. Gorgeous and rich, with flavors of Fuji apple, peach and stone. While the acidity has softened, the wine is never cloying or overly sweet- just full of abundant perfectly ripe fruit. Gorgeous.

Pale yellow in color. Beautiful aromas of white florals, peaches, orange blossom, slate and yellow citrus zest. This 17 year old Auslese manages to combine incredible intensity of flavor and dances on the palate with superb delicacy, freshness, piquancy and an endless peacock tail finish. Wow.

11th of 12, pnp, soaked cork but perfect level, darker and just starting to lose vibrancy of fruit relative to last and better showing in 2016 in a vintage which has always lacked botrytis, downside but no real rush. Still F+ (18) but 97 and 99 better bets.

All i can say is what a steal, somehow finding a case of these. This is the second bottle of twelve, and what a delight! Auslese residual sugar allowed this to age gracefully for 50 years and floral notes gave way to honey on the palette. Opened on ice for few hours, it still has a zing on the initial sip and is very round in the mouth. Simply stunning as a pre and post dinner drink.
