Le Ragnaie, Brunello di Montalcino

Really drinking well at present. Notes or red cherry, dirt rosemary and ripe tomatoes. Can still hold other bottles for another 3-5.

Another teriffic bottle of Brunello. At 18 years young the color was deep and dark. The cork in perfect condition. On the nose it was all black cherry and wood while the palate added earth, spice and minerality. Very nice.

What stood out? The pairing - risotto (Acquerello), tallegio, and parmigiana. The earthiness of the wine with just enough to smooth out the risotto. Excellent. Drinking well. How much longer? 2027 seems right.

This wine is in a truly magical state right now. Light ruby with a garnet edge. Pronounced aromas of dried cherries, roses, mushroom, earth, a hint of tar. On the palate wonderful geography of fresh red fruit in the center, a frame of medium plus tannin, smoothly integrated, rising to crisp tannic aromatic back note, ringing acids (medium high), all elements beautifully balanced.

In a good, perhaps best it will be, place. Smoky cherry fruit with leather, a decent acidity and a moderate finish. Drink any time, maybe within 1-2 years.

Coffee and chocolate hints in the nose which isn’t very lifted. Flavors of cherry, sous bois, herbs and a pretty good dose of tannin and acid. Drink any time.

This seemed open to business for me. Initially fruit was very fresh, bright red fruit, leaning more raspberry. More traditional on the nose. As it was open, developed a bit more secondary characteristics. Again surprisingly fresh fruit, almost primary, for a 15 year old wine, but I didn't get a lot of tannins, so good time to drink up.

Medium garnet. Complex aromas of red and dark fruit, leather, dried rose petals, heath. Fresh red fruit on the palate with clear lilting acids, smooth tannins on the long finish with lovely aromatic back notes. Carries its 14. 5% alcohol very well.

2008 vintage

Light ruby. Leather, dry rose petals, tar on the nose. On the palate, bright red fruit, light body, very dry, strong integrated tannins high acid, beautiful aromatic back note, long tannic aromatic finish. Perfect with Marcella Hazan spaghetti bolognese. Seems somewhat withdrawn at the moment, with a promise of more.

Medium red color. Aromas of red plums, leather and wood spices. Ripe, fully integrated fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Very complex and suave on the palate. A delicious wine at the sweet spot of its maturity.

Pale ruby. Complex aromas of dried cherries, leather, cloves, orange peel, and roses. Dark salty fruit on the palate with a sweet and sour acid frame, light crisp tannins in the very long finish. Medium body, 14.5% alcohol. Perfect with a German rabbit stew.

Drank along side a 2008 Francesco Rinaldi Barolo Le Brunate. Decanted for about 1 1/4 hours in the wine refrigerator. Drank on its own and with grilled steaks. Ready to drink for sure. Nice deep purple color. Dark fruits, wet earth and a hint of clove on the nose. Mouthful of sweet tannins, dark cherry and just the tiniest taste of graphite. Opened 30 min ago. Not decanted. Colour:Medium dark red. Orange at rim. Little or no sediments in bottle Nose:Red cherries and berries. Hints of lavender. No alcohol detected. Taste:Tannins present but well tamed. Big mouth feel and long finish. Hints of dark chocolate on the back end. Sweet red cherries in first taste. Excellent bottle and drinking very well. Served with elk rib steak and sautéed vegetables.

Didn't take notes - from recollection, similar view to "Outplaying's" 5/2020 note. Burgundian type nose with sour cherry. What I loved about this sweet/savory combination and very fragrant nose. 93-94 range.

Long Live Brunello 2013 vs 2008 vs 2005 (Zoom!) : From magnum. Really at its sweet spot on the nose, but slightly immature on the palate still. The finish on this is lovely – and extremely long. Really balanced, floral and spicy.

Clear pale ruby. On the nose clean, medium intensity with red cherry, red plum, dried cranberry, clove, licorice and rose and blossom on the floral spectrum. Wine is developing. On the palate dry, medium (+) acid, medium tannin, high alcohol. Medium Body, medium(+) intemsity - red cherry, red plum, licorice, savoury, kirsch with a long finish. Very good quality and can be drunk now but has the potential for ageing. Sadly my last bottle but a lovely sangiovese.

My last bottle clearly had some kind of flaw as this was really quite good. A little pinkish/brown in color, with a nose of raisin and dried blueberries. Super soft tannins and a mellow finish.

Opened, took a test pour and starting sipping over the next hour plus before dinner. Bright semi translucent ruby red color with some amber on edges. Tobacco, earth, spice and berries on the nose. Burgundian balance, weight & finesse. Nicely lifted and fresh. High-toned, nuanced red fruit, earth, licorice and tobacco. Drinking so well right now. 14.5% Alc and hard to believe it. Felt, smelled and tasted like sub 13% alc. Weightless fresh and balanced. Not a monster in size …

Very little on the nose, mild black cherry and leather notes that abruptly finished. Perhaps a victim of bottle variation, this bottle disappointed.

Blind pairs (Chicago, IL) : Served double blind, next to the 2010. Despite rarely ever drinking Tuscan wine, this wine just screamed Tuscany to me. Maybe it was the nice touch of brown herbs? In any case, there was plenty to like here: the restrained plummy notes, a touch of sweetness, and nicely integrated tannins. This is drinking remarkably well for such a young wine, and was showing very differently than the 2010.

A year since my first one and it really hasn't changed in any measurable way. Profound and lovely nose, firm (though a shade softer) tannins, a perimeter of grippy acidity, and slightly obtrusive alcohol. Medium length finish. I still think I like where this is headed. 5+12+16+9 = 92

Still quite tannic, maybe more time will help, but close to ten years in I would place this as fairly average for the brand not the best vintage by a long ways

Light garnet. On the nose an indescribably moving melange of strawberry, tobacco, roses, dried flowers. Exact spread of deep aromatic fruit on the palate with a precise acid frame, long sighing finish that brings tears to the eyes. Playful, poetical, powerful, and vivacious. 50 + 18 + 18 + 10 = 96. [It continues to interest me how far out of whack I am with everybody else on this wine!]

Medium garnet but still youthful. Pronounced aromas of baked red cherry, liquorice, barnyard, leather, game. Developing. Dry palate, high acidity, high alcohol, full body, medium ripe, fine tannins. Best after an hour or two open. Beautiful burnt ruby color, about 60% opaque with quick legs and no sediment. Typical, highly floral nose with a little extra funkiness that, I think, makes it quite interesting. Light to medium body, good juicy acidity, and plenty of sweet fruit to complete the package. PnP, the first of a half-case, bouquet of deep, dark sweet fruit with some earthy funk, it tasted a little muddy and a little rough, it did not seem to be well-knitted yet, there was a thick streak of sweet sangiovese cherry fruit underneath the noise, with some extract and length, maybe some more time or a lengthy decant may smooth this out a little and bring out what has the potential to be an enjoyable brunello, will probably wait …

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2007 (herrgårdsost och parmesan) Elegant doft, svalt rödbärigt med mogna jordgubbar som mest framträdande frukten, en gnutta blodgrape, lätt blommigt, gröna örter, en del fat - men rätt diskret, något jordigt, svarta oliver. I munnen samma friska röda frukt, fin syra, välbalanserade fat och en lätt beska i slutet. Måste nog vara den svalaste och mest eleganta Brunello jag druckit. Väldigt Pinot-lik. Riktigt trevlig! 90+ (med mer mognad säkerligen 91p)

Lots of dark fruit, tobacco and herbs. Nicely done, but just missing a certain something (age?) that prevents it from really shining. Decent price, worth giving another one a shot with a couple more years of age on it. Tonight, the Martina 2007, at half the price, beat it hands down.
